The finish v wolves this season I think shows he has natural goal scoring abilities and this hasn’t been in doubt. 11 goals in the 23/24 season is not bettered by many teenagers in PL history.

Lots of fitness issues past 18 months has limited that game time.
I don’t think the issue is about if he is good enough tbh but he does need 6 months of regular game time to get form and fitness back.
For us he is behind Pedro, Welbeck and even Rutter. Currently the system needs the number 9 role to be a player who is stronger on the ball. When he first came in he was very good at this but seems to have lost some of this strength whilst he was off.
West Ham wouldn’t be a bad loan at all. 5 months of regular football most likely if he was fit and he would come back ready for next season.
Without a loan if the others all stay fit he is likely to only come off the bench here and there. Ok the flip side if they all end up with injury issues he could get that game time here but long term development a loan may not be the worst thing ever.

Three or four 90 minutes of football the average pro footballer needs to get back to match sharpness.
He’s had nowhere near that.
If we are writing this season off as most people have get him in and get him scoring.
Welbeck isn’t the future.
It wasn't long ago when NSC used to scoff at 'one for the future'. Welbeck is the now, which is why he is in the team ahead of Ferguson.

I think people forget how young Evan is sometimes. He's still 4 years younger than Van Hecke was when he made his debut for us! He needs a loan, and I would 100% send him on loan to another Premier League team. I don't get the 'this strengthens a rival' argument- if he is banging in the goals for the rival then he is weakening 19 other rivals. We need him playing and scoring at the level we are playing at, not a division below, so when he comes back he is 100% ready to slot straight in.

If we are writing this season off
Welbeck isn’t the future.
Nobody is writing the season off. Why would they - 18 games to go, still in the cup (Chelsea are on worse run of form than us) , inconsistent form from everyone in/around the top 10.

I remember hearing this 4 years ago.
Exactly Welbeck is underrated. Until his injury - he was having his best season for us. He's 34, Wood is 33. Strikers have plenty of time left in them. He looks after himself. so doubt he's going anywhere yet. He's got to be one of the best value signings we've made in the Prem. Up there with Gross.

I agree with these comments entirely but he is injury prone and liable to miss a percentage of the games left to play. That’s where young Evan should come in. Chancing it I know but two more wins and we are not going down, give the lad some playing time.

Letting him go out on loan to give him game time to Arsenal or West Ham. Here’s a novel idea, play him? Pedro semi injured, Welbeck not 100%, if he’s good enough for either of the potential loan teams then he’s good enough to start for us surely?
It doesn't work that way. Not all teams play the same, and not all players fit all teams. Ayari was considered a waste of space in the championship last season. It's not impossible that Evan would score for fun for Arsenal or the Irons.

I'm a stuck record on this I know..... BUT I'm going to state one more time ......... I'm in favour of loaning EF to a club not in the EPL, but if we loan EF to West Ham then as a company we are f***ing mad, I'd question the decision makers at BHAFC if this happens. The club's approach HAS to be the best interests of BHA first and EF second.

The ONLY reason I can think of that we would do this is if we put in a mandatory buy clause in the loan for £50m+ because we thought that his long term future as an elite player was in jeopady and we basically want to cash in. In Tony's world he's sitting on a pair of Kings, might be enough, might not.

My preference is to keep him, and play him.

Welbeck isn’t the future.
He isn't, but he is the present. Welbeck has been fitter, in better form and scoring goals and when he's been injured, so has Ferguson. He needs game time, and I hope he gets it here, however if he isn't going to be better than Welbeck then he won't and shouldn't start ahead of him.

The thing is, if he goes, I don't think he'll be coming back. Undav saga mark two.
Does he have family in Germany to whom he owes an obligation?

I would have to smile if he went to WHU and started banging them in I have to confess. The meltdown on here would be immense

Ferguson is more injury prone than Welbeck.

How long is that based on ? a few seasons ?
Neither are at their peak or have been over the last few seasons.

Growing pains v Getting older pains
Since Welbeck retuned from surgery on his hamstring in October 2021 he’s been available for approx 80% of games. Even this season he’s hitting 70% availability at the moment.

Not bad for an injury prone player. We still have to manage his mins but his injury record here is nowhere near as bad as some make out.

Sad fact is Evan needs to start producing the goods sometime soon. There's a clear window of opportunity here for him to step into the first choice number nine role. Sadly at the moment he doesn't appear quite ready to step up to the plate

I think the complete opposite. The ideal scenario for us is he gets his confidence back and starts banging in the goals at THIS LEVEL. If he does that, yes it will strengthen a rival (for 5 months) but it will weaken every other team in the division he scores against. And he'ld come back to us being a striker who scores goals regularly in the Premier League, rather than one who has done well at a lower level, that then struggles in the Premier League again.

How is that situation not in the interests of BHA?
