Hmm, this clip from the article that you posted earlier, "The so-called “special relationship” has already become considerably less so in recent years, with Parliament’s refusal until December to support military action in Syria taking a particularly heavy toll in this regard. Britain has become – and is widely perceived to be – a less dependable and less capable ally",

This is part of the reality of austerity and the post-Iraq political landscape. The damage of Brexit is part of a wider picture.

can't someone just explain the prinicple?

everyone (europeans included) needs to have enough points to be able to work or live here, that means britain then has the say on who can and who cant come in. professions such as doctors would obviously tally up more points than a general laborer purely because they are in greater need.

Me. If the s**t ever hits the fan there's only one ally worth having. For all it's faults the west needs the US for it's long term survival unless you want to rely on our wonderfully supportive European partners in times of crisis. Also NATO is a waste of time without US involvement.

Saying that we should ignore their patronising advice about the EU.

NSC representative (ish) of the country shock

stream_img.jpg

Compared to the last ComRes poll in January, the proportion of people saying they would vote to remain in the EU has dropped from 54% to 49%, while the percentage backing leaving the union has increased from 36% to 41%.

The poll also suggests 70% of people who voted Labour at the last general election would vote to remain, while Conservative voters are more divided, with 45% supporting remaining and 48% leaving.

Similar percentages to the NSC poll. The gap is closing though.

Usual caveats apply ... it's only one poll, others have fluctuated wildly etc etc

One good thing about the Americans is that they speak English.

I like how you think about the future of the West and then at the same time want to weaken the West through Brexit.

Thanks it's a special skill I have.

Seriously though please explain (with the use of facts if at all possible) how a strong independent UK would 'weaken the west'.

As soon as the land of the free is signed up as an equal member in a supranational continental union with its poorer continental peers and has ditched its green card to allow migrants to settle freely from Mexico, Brazil, Cuba et al, their views on our membership are an irrelevence.

The views of their policticans and commentators on why the UK should remain a memeber of the EU are based solely on their own geopolitical and financial interests, no more no less.

It is no surprise that they want us to stay in, just like why the other EU countries want us to stay, because they all benefit from our membership.

This is the nub of the matter, in recent years our politicians have continuously indulged our US and EU "friends to the detriment of the UK's long standing resident citizens. If you want the UK to continue in that vein the choose to stay but don't moan about how difficult life is competing for public services or the difficulty of getting housing. You reap what you sow.

The US should know this better than most, when they strove for independence in the second British civil war they did so under the banner, "no taxation without representation". The European Union via the Commission implements and derives benefits from taxes and yet I (or any othe rEU citizen) cannot vote for the Head of the Commission, or anyone else who sits in the most powerful arm of the EU.

This is no accident, as it allows them to agree the trade seals like TTIP without any public scrutiny.

Y'know about TTIP right?

i see it also says
The latest poll suggests 42% of those asked may still change their mind before the referendum.

thats a huge amount of people either way up for grabs to be persuaded to stay in or out.

looks like this one could go right to the wire

Yes it may be a lot closer than people think as the poll of polls suggests. Unfortunately I still think a majority will plump for the status quo but all to play for.
