Collingwood is dog turd. His selection tells you everything you need to know about the England team - it's a club for mates.

I wrote a big long diatribe about this, but it was so long I figured no-one would read it, so I deleted it. Basically, I agree.

Why not bring in form players? Okay I realise that there is a difference between class players and form players, but there are players out there at the moment who have a bit of both. Bopara, Shah and Prior all spring to mind immeadiately as players with at least some test match experience who are in great form.

That was, in fairness, what they tried for with the bowling in the last test match. However they got it wrong. I don't see how they can (quite rightly) refuse to consider Rashid last season when he was playing well, as they were worried about putting him under pressure, and then call up Pattinson after what 12 first class matches? Tremlett has been there as 12th man for a reason, USE HIM. Or Hoggard. At least pick someone who has experience, who has bowled at Headingly before.

Its bizarre that they chop and change the bowlers but of late its the batsmen that have lost us the test, and are losing us the initiative in this test. Shah has to be given a go, ahead of Bopara or anyone else. He has to be the unluckiest batsmen since the likes of Hussey had to wait 5 years to play for Australia.

Just chuckling at Charlton
England's cricket side have basically trod water since 2005, yet again an English sporting side achieve something good and then sit back, rest on their laurels and go back whence they came. Australia on the other hand got beat, knuckled down and made it a mission to rip the Ashes back in 2006. And guess what they whupped our butts 5-0! And let's face it the Aussies were a damn good side before, but after that rare series defeat they strode to get even better and they bloody well did. There is the big difference, and look at England now, 173-6 on a batting track at home against a half decent test side. Back whence we came

My England team would be;

Cook(c)
Denly
Bell
Pietersen
Prior(wk)
Shah
Flintoff
Broad
Sidebottom
Anderson
Panesar

Although bowlers would be subject to change (Tremlett, Harmison, etc) depending upon conditions (not Hoggard as he is too similar to Sidebottom IMO). Jones would be in for Anderson or Broad (whoever was bowling worse at the ime) when he's proved his fitness. Bopara would also be first back up batsmen. Beyond that I would say that any further replacement comes from the form players in the CC (as long as they've played more than 20 games in their careers!). Get a team in, get it bedded together, with an eye on the Ashes (either the next one, or given that it's probably too late for that, the one after).

Don't be silly. He's a JOCK. Jock's don't do CRICKETBALL.

Which is just as well, as they'd probably beat us at the moment....
