My word, English summers are depressing.

It’s bloody grim oop norf.

It’s a good job everyone is terrible at batting otherwise we’d never get any games finished during a cricketing ‘summer’

Is it to stop their bat getting wet ?

Yes that’s obvious but my point in the long history of cricket no one has ever bothered until recently. Appears to be a stupid fad.

Also Atherton analysing the bowling. Yesterday I posted it was obvious we were bowling far too wide. Here’s me watching on my ipad. I have an interest in cricket, played it and watched for years but am no expert, I do wonder how bloody thick some of these players are.

Cricket really needs to take a look at itself. 5 minutes of rain ends up as 40 minutes off the field.

It takes a few minutes to get the covers off. Meanwhile the teams and umpires should be on the outfield ready to go immediately. But no, the covers will be off and some 10 minutes later the umpires appear, then the fielding team followed 5 minutes later by the batmen, by which time there’s a spot of rain three counties away and they’re off.

The track has got to last 5 days. If you watch OD or T20 then they are less fussy with a bit of dampness.

You’re joking. Last 5 days my arse.

The Indian wickets didn’t last the first over.

First day slightly green
Second day drying flat
Third day dried flat
Fourth cracking up
Fifth day cracking up turning (minefield)

I used to know Peter Elton, Sussex CCC groundsmen well and helped prepare the wicket at Horsham so I know a fair bit about wickets. A little rain on a dry surface will cause no damage at all.

The soaking needed to penetrate the surface post game is staggering.

But not well enough to know that his name was Eaton :lolol:

He produced some cracking wickets at Hove - there weren't many draws there

Ha ha I thought straight away. He was a miserable sod until you knew him.

Created one of the fastest tracks in England.

Robinson 75/4

Which is what he got in the first innings v NZ.

Giving Curran a go not working out too good ...4,6,4

Bowling Curran in a test match is like bowling Gooch, to be done to eat up overs before a new ball. He just is not test class.
