I just believe Capello would get more out of his players if he just cut them some slack instead of treating them like school kids.

Trouble is though, they're so chavvy they can't be given any slack, they'd only end up on the front pages for all the usual reasons.

If we'd won our last two they wouldn't have a problem. I don't mean it's their own doing, I mean it's a side effect of the disappointing performances - some things are more acceptable when you're winning than when you're not. They had the day off today, they've been off playing golf and on safaris in the past week or so, they have no reason to be bored, they just don't like discipline. They will live with it when we're winning, as during qualifiers, but now we've struggled against opposition we should be beating comfortably, it's not so palatable.

Chances are, though, that most of them don't actually mind, but with the way we've performed, I imagine one or two of the fringe players are turning their disappointment, and the others will use it as an excuse. When the players give their interviews after returning home or write their latest "auto"biography, they will paint a picture of such harsh training regimes and try to point the blame anywhere but at their own inability to perform in these games as to a level they're capable of on the day.

Maybe they could spend their spare time with some of their bored mates trying to re-learn how to play a 5 yard pass & control the ball then? Just a thought...

I don't disagree, to be honest.

But I just think if you are managing a bunch of footballers, who've been together for a month already, just let them let of some steam and bond every few weeks.

A night of beers, fancy dress, stupid games, get an impressionist there to take the piss out of Capello and the coaches etc etc etc.

No training the next day, just a team game of golf or whatever.

Just a break from Capello's stuffy regime and install a bit of 'in it together' mentality.

I think he has lost the dressing room, perhaps not in such spectacular fashion as Domenach but he still lost it all the same.

Terry can't be happy at losing the captaincy, Green situation, Joe Cole not getting a look in, Gerrard playing on the left & James's interview, it all points all points to disharmony.

The players are rather fickle. It was only a few weeks back that both Rio and Gerrard were highly praising the manager and pointing out why his methods, compared to previous bosses, were preferable.

David James certainly sounded royally f***ed off in his interview. Capello has clearly lost the morale of the squad. Do we not want our players to have fun and bond into a team so that maybe we cab actually play like a team? Or are we all just jealous that they earn much more than us so want to see them have a miserable time as some sort of pennance to make us feel better.

If the players are bored and it's affecting the performance then capello should be put under pressure to bloody well do something about it! Stuart Pearce should take then out on a bender.

I have no idea, but would the Spanish and Germans do that?

The Spanish have a room at their hotel were the players can go for beers and to play cards etc. The manager knows about it, but never goes in. It operates a curfew and the players don't abuse it. (This is were it would go wrong with In-ger-lund!)

Hasn't worked in the past though has it?

From what I've seen of Terry he should have been left at home with Walcott, so he's got nothing to be unhappy about.

You would think even John Terry might be capable of finding his own entertainment by now!

Fair enough if you get bored working behind the checkout at Argus, but when you have been paid to play football at a World cup and stay at a 5 star hotel in a beautiful country for free then you have no right to be 'bored'.

However I feel the way Capello has gone about the job does not work when spending the best part of two months together with the players. Capello is like Viagra, sometimes you need it in short bursts but after a long space of time the effects would become quite annoying. The players want normality, they want to see their family and they don't want to be ruled over like bloody Stalin from 8 a.m. until 11p.m., at which point Capello reads them all Postman Pat. We do things to take our mind off the job and the constant pressure and regime may be getting to them.

Indeed. Maybe Capello wants them to earn the right to be trusted to let their hair down without stumbling out a club at 3am with a girl on each arm?

I wasnt sure.

Thats the problem isnt it, the England players would more than likely abuse it.
Also we have tried to let them have a few beers approach, it hasnt really worked in the past has it?

I guess the nearest thing I can think of to this is Ramos at Spurs, the players hated him for being tough.

The Dentist's Chair? We've been there, done that.

Besides, Gazza had far more creativity than the current crop put together.

That said, I doubt that any amount of 'refuelling' would make Carragher any slower.

The thing is Bry, they can't win (literally, on every level). Sven operated a much more informal regime, and he got absolutely slaughtered for it. Now Capello risks being as slaughtered for treating them all like kids.

Don't know, but England's 2003 rugby world cup squad used to go out on the pop in between games during the tournament. Seemed to work ok for them, afterall what harm can it do if done the night before a rest day?
