The thing is Bry, they can't win (literally, on every level). Sven operated a much more informal regime, and he got absolutely slaughtered for it. Now Capello risks being as slaughtered for treating them all like kids.

How f**king old are these players? They're supposed to be adults.

Bored ? Maybe that says alot about the 'English mindset' It is interesting to see the the better 'pundits' on T/V are foreign, and can speak English well. However on a 100K a week why bother to EDUCATE yourself ?

Exactly. Broaden your mind, become a better person...and learn Afrikaans.

Look at football clubs Christmas parties to realise they cant really be trusted

I know, it's crazy. They're like untrustworthy school children.

I wasnt sure.

Thats the problem isnt it, the England players would more than likely abuse it.
Also we have tried to let them have a few beers approach, it hasnt really worked in the past has it?

.

Sounds as though it worked in 1990. When has it not worked? The dentist chair thing was just a bunch of young men getting drunk and messing about, they weren't doing anything wrong or breaking any laws, and the team went on to have a successful tournent. The press just blew the whole thing out of proportion.

funny how on the back of a pundits "source" now everyone is rounding on and critising the players. does no one question this? they are professional players who have been away before, do you really think they dont know how to cope with this?

more likly a couple of players are unhappy at the teams performance and mopping around trying to understand whats wrong themselves, this then being passed on as "bored".

it seems everyone setup the scenario already; Capello is too strict, the players are over paid prima donnas. despite this being no different to those players who are having a good world cup, we are creating a nice narrative for our failure before its even happened.

I don't disagree, to be honest.

But I just think if you are managing a bunch of footballers, who've been together for a month already, just let them let of some steam and bond every few weeks.

A night of beers, fancy dress, stupid games, get an impressionist there to take the piss out of Capello and the coaches etc etc etc.

No training the next day, just a team game of golf or whatever.

Just a break from Capello's stuffy regime and install a bit of 'in it together' mentality.

Did they go on Safari before the games?

Don't know, but England's 2003 rugby world cup squad used to go out on the pop in between games during the tournament. Seemed to work ok for them, afterall what harm can it do if done the night before a rest day?

Not sure how true it is but im sure i read that Cloughie took the Forest players on the piss just before a european cup final. Lets face it, it cant make them play worse can it.

Maybe they could spend their spare time with some of their bored mates trying to re-learn how to play a 5 yard pass & control the ball then? Just a thought...

This

It's about time some of the whining little tossers manned up and took some reponsibility - life isn't always easy

I personally want England to do well at this world cup so would prefer that, away from the matches and training, their lives were as easy and pleasant as possible during the 6 or so weeks that they're together as a squad.

In my computer
Diddums finally got a manager who is making them work for their jersey's, making them be good decent boys at night, and focusing on the job at hand, and they can't cope, they've dummy spat to be precise.

f*** off then and put the under 21 team in, kids who would give their right arms to be there and probably do us more proud.

Its all sounding like stupid childish excuses. So we may as well put the kids in.

I really don't think that you need to worry about them suffering too much, I think there are people in worse situations,

The fact is that whether it is James, Green or Hart - Whether we play Rooney up front with Gerrard off, Crouch with Defoe, or Heskey with a midfield of Carrick, Joe Cole and James Milner in front of a six man defence, these players should be capable of beating Algeria with no management and any formation - NO EXCUSES

If I had performed like that during my professional career I would have taken a F***ing good kicking, or worse, lost a serious amount of money. Given they won't lose any money, the least they deserve is the Kicking :censored:

I think its generally accepted that the England players look uptight, tense and aren't enjoying themselves. No smiles, no expressing themselves, no swagger. Just fear, unforced errors and an unwillingness to take responsibility against teams that frankly they should be beating 3 or 4 nil.

Like most things in life, playing professional football is probably 80-90% in the head, so if your head isn't right you only have 20-10% left to work with.

Capello's job isn't to coach techique. It should just be to get the players mentally prepared. Relaxed, confident, assured and happy.

At the moment, because they have nothing to do, the whole weight of being at the World Cup is weighing down on them and crushing the spirit out of them. They are frightened - you can see it. Say what you like, but they are just young blokes, regardless of how much they earn.

They need a regime that releases the pressure, allows them to relax, bond and be confident. Not one that leaves them with nothing to do but stew on the enormity of playing in the World Cup for hours, days and weeks on end.

I think something has to be said for the relationship (or lack of) between capello and the players, i imagine hes not someone they could talk to, thus, not fully trusting him. when you look at the argentina team, when they score, maradonna is off the bench nearly onto the pitch, the team around him hugging him, and theyre playing well as if theyre enjoying it, i cant see england doin that. i imagine the players are coming on the pitch, not feeling like theyve been told how to play by a guy they trust, but ordered to play by a guy they dont like.
