England players "bored."

We are doomed captain mainwaring.

No team spirit
Dodgy keepers
Simple passes going astray
Our talisman playing like a schoolboy (and acting like one)
Tactics seem wrong - Rooney out wide, Heskey in the middle, no Joe Cole or Crouch not coming on early enough, Gerrard not in favoured position, no pace in defence

I would rather back Murray to win Wimbledon than back England to beat Slovenia!

I think something has to be said for the relationship (or lack of) between capello and the players, i imagine hes not someone they could talk to, thus, not fully trusting him. when you look at the argentina team, when they score, maradonna is off the bench nearly onto the pitch, the team around him hugging him, and theyre playing well as if theyre enjoying it, i cant see england doin that. i imagine the players are coming on the pitch, not feeling like theyve been told how to play by a guy they trust, but ordered to play by a guy they dont like.

It's annoying when England fail and people have to resort to reasoning like this In the case of your example I would argue that there are many different styles of management - some are more matey and passionate like Maradona and others are fair more outwardly unemotional and treat their players like staff. Just because we didn't win I don't think we can start dismissing an entire school of management - not to mention the fact that Capello has been a highly successful manager with his personal style in the past.

Quite. And also, we tried "matey" management with Steve McClaren, look where that got us. EVERYONE agreed Capello's style was just what our players needed when he took over.

Bored? How about visiting some of the suffering townships that FIFA and the FIFA co-ordinated media are happy to ignore and hide from us and start to realise how lucky they are..?

Hell, even Eboue knew nothing of the Sharpeville Massacre and they are within a spitting distance of the crime scene.

Chris Waddle, speaking on 5 Live earlier today, revealed that a 'source' in the England squad has told him that the players are "bored rigid" at their training camp and that there's growing dissatisfaction and resentment with Capello's strict regime.

(Interestingly, he said that during Italia '90 Gazza would always make sure the players got a few bottles of wine at dinner, they all went for beers together in-between fixtures and they roomed together).

Can confirm that............Rooney said he's bored in Friday's 'Equipe' newspaper over nere.

Maybe they could spend their spare time with some of their bored mates trying to re-learn how to play a 5 yard pass & control the ball then? Just a thought...
That's the thing that's puzzled me the most. Let's give them the benefit of the doubt and say Beckenbauer was right, let's say it's Cappello who's told them to play aimless long balls (even when there's no one there) and not to bother trying to create space. Let's leave aside systems, tactics, formations, personnel, friendships, relationships, management techniques, etc etc etc and just talk about football. Basic football skills such as the ability to trap a ball, play a simple five yard pass accurately, and recognising that the recipient of said pass should be wearing the same colour shirt as you are. Why are they suddenly SO crap at that?

The team have every f***ing right to be bored!

Yes, they're living the dream.
Yes, i'd have loved to be there.
Yes, they're playing shit.

But this isn't about being bored in the sense they have nothing to do. I read this as being bored in the sense that the players have no team bonding. Capello's regime has become a little bit of the lads just going through the motions because they've been isolated, with little bonding, team spirit building exercises for over a month. It's train, play, rest, train, play, rest. This won't win a World Cup.

Because, for some unknown reason, there is something wrong mentally. The players are neither happy nor relaxed. Their level of ability and technique hasn't declined since May 17th, but as said previously, when you perform at the very top of any profession, 90% of it is in your head. Look at Tiger Woods. He hasn't forgotten how to play golf in the last months - it's simply that mentally he isn't in the right place since the sex scandal stuff.

Respected journalists who have followed England for many years, such as Radio Five's chief football correspondent Mike Ingham are truely baffled and are saying that something has gone seriously wrong in the England preparations for the team to look so stilted, frightened and unhappy.

Getting them to do extra passing drills and keepy-upies is not the answer, because technique is not at the heart of the problem, but carry on.

I think its generally accepted that the England players look uptight, tense and aren't enjoying themselves. No smiles, no expressing themselves, no swagger. Just fear, unforced errors and an unwillingness to take responsibility against teams that frankly they should be beating 3 or 4 nil.

Like most things in life, playing professional football is probably 80-90% in the head, so if your head isn't right you only have 20-10% left to work with.

Capello's job isn't to coach techique. It should just be to get the players mentally prepared. Relaxed, confident, assured and happy.

At the moment, because they have nothing to do, the whole weight of being at the World Cup is weighing down on them and crushing the spirit out of them. They are frightened - you can see it. Say what you like, but they are just young blokes, regardless of how much they earn.

They need a regime that releases the pressure, allows them to relax, bond and be confident. Not one that leaves them with nothing to do but stew on the enormity of playing in the World Cup for hours, days and weeks on end.

This. Let the lads loose on somthing like lazer tag or paintballing or somthing. Get them bowling. Get an xBox/ps3 in there and set up a inter-team compitition, on a game like PES or FIFA. get a comedian in. let them go to a couple of the gigs going on, and let them do stuff, within reason, that they want to do. Train play rest, train play rest will not win the world cup!

Capello is a FANTASTIC manager. To turn around the side he inherited in to the side that RAPED qualification. Its a testiment to his ability

However the stern approach turned around the side. But itsnot going to keep them going in the right direction.

Its kind of like dieting. Yes, the weight loss regime, however you choose to go, will lose you weight, its how you keep it off that is hard, and you can't follow the same approach when losing weight becuase you're likely to relapse and binge out again.

If we keep this hardnut approach in the degree that it is, then we'll relapse and won't qualify for 2012. Capello needs to mellow his a style a little to keep the changes he's made in place and working as well as they have. And this means allowing his players to be what they are, young 20 or 30 somthing men. While keeping a lid on it a bit.

Another analogy is a fizzed up Coke bottle. Capello has kept the lid tight on, while Sven and McLaren, let the bottle off, and it fizzed up everywhere.
Thing is, Capello keeping the lid on means pressure is building up and somthign has got to give, it'll either be the lid (Capello relaxing) or the bottle (the england team and its chances in this world cup). I just hope he see's it before its too late.

They are adults. Read a book. Go for a walk. Go for a swim. Arrange some security (if that is a problem that concerns them) to have a wander around a local town and explore.
