John Terry press conference going on now.

He admits the players get bored between having lunch at 1pm and the 6 or 7 hours to dinner.

They have darts tournaments, pool and snooker etc but it's not enough.

Shouldn't Gerrard be doing this?

John Terry isnt really a great person to ask about team spirit is he? Funny how the England spirit hasnt been what it was since it came out he was shagging Bridges wife/ex wife

he acknowledged it s abit boring waiting around between lunch and dinner. seems pretty normal obseravtion to make, i imagine it is a bit boring. but *he* wasnt making a issue or excuse of it, just responding tho the question about it. Media has picked this up, now you are all talking about it like its the most important issue. some of you even share the sentiment, but twist around and saying how becaue they are rich they shouldnt be bored?
as for Terry doing the inteview, i think do interviews in rounds, it was his turn. he is also a better speaker than Gerrard, he's not eloquent, but is clearer and doesnt "er" and "erm" every three words, "like".

Meeting with Fabio Capello tonight. 'Maybe some of us will be sent home afterwards too', referring to the Anelka situation.

Sound like they're really not happy with the management team

another hype from nothing, it was a joke, suggesting they will speak their minds too.

media really have decided havent they, now everyone is following their lead. I think the main problem is the media is bored with not alot of great football, and so many out there they have to invent or stretch everything they find. oh well its done now, the media will fill column inches. no chance of supporting the team right now, but they'll soon change their tun if we win the next two games.

That's a bad analogy.

Normal Eating leads to obesity
Dieting leads to healthy weight.

If you stop dieting and go back to normal eating, you will go back to obesity.

Lack of discipline led to us failing to win and failing to qualify for the euros
Discipline led to us qualifying in style.

If we lose discipline we don't get better. We go back to failing to win.

Actually normal eating doesn't, its excessive eating that leads to it.

Well, it's a combination of over eating and lack of activity, but I actually meant normal eating for the individual, (which is overeating yes).

Lifestyle A leads to obesity
Lifestyle B (dieting) leads to healthy weight.

If you stop dieting and go back to lifestyle A, you will go back to obesity.

I get you.

I didn't mean it like "lets just return to f***ing raves and other obcenties"

I think we've crash dieted, now we need to return to a normal balance, not quite the excessive lifestyle we were on under sven/steve but not the totalitarianism of Fabio.

I see what you're saying and agree with you about the press having their version of events and stiicking to it. But you can't have watched the last two games and not realised something is quite wrong with the players and/ or management. Sounds like it's a crisis meeting tonight which teams who are in harmony don't tend to have. I hope they get to the bottom of whatever is holding people back and clear the air ready to come out on Wednesday with the fire in their belly that Terry talked about

Because, for some unknown reason, there is something wrong mentally. The players are neither happy nor relaxed. Their level of ability and technique hasn't declined since May 17th, but as said previously, when you perform at the very top of any profession, 90% of it is in your head. Look at Tiger Woods. He hasn't forgotten how to play golf in the last months - it's simply that mentally he isn't in the right place since the sex scandal stuff.

Respected journalists who have followed England for many years, such as Radio Five's chief football correspondent Mike Ingham are truely baffled and are saying that something has gone seriously wrong in the England preparations for the team to look so stilted, frightened and unhappy.

Getting them to do extra passing drills and keepy-upies is not the answer, because technique is not at the heart of the problem, but carry on.

This is of course perfectly correct. The players have started averagely and got worse. By the last ten minutes of the Algeria game, the panic was palpable and they were close to shouting at each other after every stray pass.

The thing is, if we start well on Wednesday, I can imagine the confidence will quickly flow through the team and we could end up having a very good tournament.

It's all about confidence, and lets not forget that even though we've been absolutely shit, we're yet to fall behind, and we're yet to lose. All still to play for.

This. I was still optimistic after hte USA game but i've not seen 11 players seem so disheartened, demotivated and psychologically handicaped.

I attribute this to the pressure the media created and teh style of management that Fabio is known for. More the former than the latter. I think only minor changes are needed by Fabio to get the best from our players, whihc is after all what we pay him to do. The media however, thats a long, deep set thing that sickens me sometimes.

The Sun do that advert with the guy singing "while i can dream, please let my dream come true"

They blatently don't want it to happen because its great news to f***ing slag the lads off.

Well the players might well be finding various stuff is not to their liking, but I didn't hear too many of them winging when they sailed through qualification. Are they so damaged that they forget to do the very footballing basics - which most of 'em seemed capable of doing before they jetted off to Switzerland & SA? I think it's about time they rolled their bleedin' sleeves up; showed a bit of pride & had a go at Slovinia: otherwise the so-called pinnicle of their footballing careers will just be a big dirty stain which most will never live down. Oh, & do forgive me if I'm not brimming over with optimism about the wednesday's showdown, but I presently see very little to raise my hopes quite honestly.

They are adults. Read a book. Go for a walk. Go for a swim. Arrange some security (if that is a problem that concerns them) to have a wander around a local town and explore.

There not aults though, there mstly in their early-mid twenties (the same age as me) and if all I could do to 'relax' was to sit around the hotel and read a book and go for a quick walk then I would be really bored.

Dare say it, I think there probably starting to get a little bored of each other, and with tensions rising due to poor performances they are probably getting a bit pissed off with eachother!

Because qualifying isn't a 4 to 8 week long stretch. Qualifaction is a different kettle of fish, where you play a couple of games and then you're back home.

Sorry FDM, but I don't see how a team of professional international footballers can be so absolutely f***ing useless just because they're away from home for an extended period. Are they men, or sodding mice??! Jeeeeez...

definatly somthing wrong, but its not due to being bored or supposed camp unrest. their manner is differnt to that of the French who we know are really going through unrest. i see indecisiveness, worry... "fear" as been mentioned. the problem i think is its fear of the media and the expectation, not of Capello as suggested.

on this "bored" thing, its assumed to be negative. i wonder if its because players would rather be in training?

I never said technique WAS the problem. If you'd read my post properly you'd have seen I wasn't agreeing with Twinle Toes as such, I was asking WHY they were having trouble doing the simple things. You've postulated some reasons and I happen to think you could be on the right lines. It's proved one thing though: football management, and especially tournament management, isn't simply a matter of picking eleven good players and then pinning the names up on the wall.

Oops, sorry!
I have read your post properly now. It's good to have one of NSC's best contributors back, by the way.
