[Football] Ending Season Ticket Culture

It's being challenged by the likes of Man U, who have a huge global following. I remember someone from the club saying that 97% of Man U fans had never set foot in Old Trafford. Despite our Japanese support, we're nowhere near those numbers. Man U and Liverpool have scores of 'fans' in Surrey, Sussex and Hampshire. How many Brighton supporters live in Yorkshire, Lancashire and Cumbria?

We’re certainly aren’t and never will be, which is why we only have c30k seats. And sell out.

I placed my Everton ticket on the exchange a full week before the game. It and loads of others never sold. All this bollocks about lots of people waiting for tickets, demand outstripping supply etc. I think Barber has his head up his ass sometimes!!

Yet my lowly single seat in the south West Corner has sold every time. Including Everton. I think it's about to have it's first failure with the Chelsea game. I always thought it'd be a tough ask on Valentines day

The club could conceivably change the way it allocates loyalty points to STHs. Rather than giving a block of (whatever the number is) say 200 points, it could just give you 10 points for each home game that the STH actually attends PERSONALLY. That would stop STHs who only attend 6 or 7 home games per season getting first priority access to Away matches.

That would stop STHs who only attend 6 or 7 home games per season getting first priority access to Away matches.

Or you just increase prices, increasing revenue and likely enable more fans to experience. That’s called a win win. I thank you.

Who are these 'more fans'? and why aren't they buying up every ticket on the exchange when it opens? There are hundreds available for Chelsea.

edit: 2000+ available for Chelsea. I think that kills your fishing trip stone dead.

edit again: and 800+ available for Bournemouth - before the exchange opens. DEAD AS A DODO.

The potential problem comes when things aren't going well. Suppose Southampton had ditched their season tickets and relied on people buying for each matchday - how many tickets would they be selling for the second half of the season? Season tickets is a way to keep fans' loyalty in the bad times.

Not actually true - the ticket has to sell on the exchange for the STH to get a refund (minus a £).- assuming the exchange is opened.

Well yeah, but the point is that possibility is provided. Normally when you buy things at a bulk discount you don't get the option to sell some of them back at almost full cost

Season tickets get a discount because you pay in advance. The Albion also allows interest free monthly payments.

Its a discount because you're buying in bulk, not because you're paying in advance. And the fact that you can pay monthly interest-free just reinforces that point.

I'd just leave 'em to it. The club would come crawling back to the 'legacy fans' sooner or later. Some might argue the 'legacy fans' and the wider local community are the club

So you don't want more fans/supporters of a football club you want to turn every game into an FA Cup final where the real fans, the life blood of clubs, cannot attend because they are not part of the rich elite.
