There was a Dutch band that had a UK No.1 single which stayed at the top for 6 weeks in 1976.

Pussycat they were called. Any old farts remember 'Mississippi'?

I remember it, dreadful racket !

Anybody mention Shocking Blue (they had a big hit with 'Venus'). The Venga Boys were Dutch too.

Holland, very flat, especially when it comes to music.

i saw a dutch band called kayak at the dome supporting fellow dutchman Jan Akkerman,
sometime in the seventies. They were bloody good-Jan Akkerman was tedious

I used to really like Kayak when i was at school in the 70s. I bought their Royal Bed Bouncer album purely on spec in 1975 because I liked the album cover picture - of a lone antelope striding across the desert (such things are cool when you're 13). But the music was OK too... back then. Kind of 'Queen II' era Queen on drugs with Dutch accents...

Not sure I'd want to buy it today though.

Kayak sad trivia note: drummer Pim Koopman died just a couple of months ago.

sad to hear about the drummer. i can remember at the dome they turned
the lights down and he did an amazing drum solo with flourescent drumsticks.
very impressive to a 17 year old as i was at the time

I've got an album by a Dutch singer called Anouk. It's not too good though. There is/was a Flemish band called K's Choice who had a few decent albums.

There's a fair few trance DJs. van Buuren, Tiesto, Bart Claessen spring to mind.

Dutch attitudes to pop music, in my experience is a bit schizophrenic with a lot of Dutch looking to Germany for their dance influences, Scandinavia and Britain for rock/indie but an awful lot of Dutch people seem to love horrendous Europop.

Anouk thinks she's a lot better than she actually is.

K's Choice were OK about 15 years ago, but in any case are Belgian, not Dutch. (I'm) Not an Addict is a brilliant song. Most of the rest of their stuff is filler material. (And they are still going - or rather have come back after several years hiaitus and Sarah Bettens trying and failing a solo career - they played here last week.)

If you want evidence of Dutch poor taste in music, you need to check out local crooners like Rene Froger, Marco Borsato, or Guus Meeuwis. But I heartily recommend that you don't.
