Very much so, but no way was it number one for 6 weeks - 3 or 4 maybe. They were the first Dutch band to make number one in the UK. And it replaced Abba's Dancing Queen at number one, in a Eurotrash love-in.

The two biggest bands over here today are probably Kane (U2 wannabes) and Within Temptation (symphonic rock with a girl singer who thinks she's Kate Bush). Has anyone in the UK even heard of either of them?

Yes is the answer! I'm glad Kane have got a mention. "U2 wannabes" gives a feel for the sort of music they have played over the last ten years, but is a little harsh as, actually, they are extremely good at it. "Damn Those Eyes" from the CD "As Long As You Want This" (2000) remains a great rock single by any band of any nationality.

I lived in Holland for almost 8 years, and I couldnt name one, mainly as its mostly stuff you never want to hear again.

Another vote for Gruppo Sportivo.

Did you ever get to see them? I stumbled upon them once at the Marquee, late seventies must have been, might even have been supporting The mighty Smirks or vice-versa. WAY OTT and rather magnificent in a curious kind of way. Great fun!
