Do English people get as triggered over La Manche or the German sea?
No, but we are talking about different things. Trump is trying to rename something in contradiction to international law and then declares a day to celebrate it.

Totally different level.

Tremendous news!

Trump says negotiations will begin on Ukraine after Putin call

Just now, Donald Trump says he had a "lengthy and highly productive" phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, the US president says the pair discussed Ukraine and the Middle East, as well as AI.

They both agreed, Trump says, that "we want to stop the millions of deaths taking place in the War with Russia/Ukraine".

He explains the pair agreed to work together closely, including mutual visits to their respective nations.

"We have also agreed to have our respective teams start negotiations immediately, and we will begin by calling President Volodymyr Zelensky, of Ukraine, to inform him of the conversation, something which I will be doing right now."

Trump adds that he has instructed a team, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, to lead the negotiations.

Trump is great. The first part of this is about Ukraine/Russia, and then onto Trump owning Gaza and taking over Canada. You know, standard stuff.

I doubt it is for Ukraine (or whatever it will be called after Don and Vlad have done whatever they are planning) and its people.

It's not actually unreasonable what he is saying. US committed to NATO, but expects Europe to stop being so reliant and try and look after itself. I'm just looking at it from their perspective.

As regards the Ukraine war, it has been apparent from the start that Russsia cannot be defeated, just pushed back, made to suffer and ultimately appeased in some way. It was my view three years ago and I hold to it now. It's not right, they had no right to invade sovereign territory, but it's easy for us to call for a just and moral outcome from the safety of our armchairs thousands of miles away whilst the slaughter goes on each day. Ultimately, the way out will involve things that perhaps folk don't want. But it's the only way out, unless non involved folk continue to want billions of pounds spent on death and destruction, countless lives lost, and a never ending conflict. Putin would rather destroy his own country than lose this war.

It's either a choice with a lot of wrong attached to it that may save lives, or a terrible choice that will just continue the slaughter.

My feeling was that Trump, as despicable as he is, may get something moving on Ukraine. It could be the case. It's also my feeling that the UK needs to start making friends again in Europe. I think we are seeing this coming to fruition.

Exactly. To sexual predator, convicted criminal, ethnic cleanser, economic imbecile we can now add the title Putin apologist.
To be fair, I think he earned that badge a LONG time ago!

Yeah, that's just a post from a very biased source. I'll believe it if the contracts are broken down and caveats added.

I like to deal in truth. And after the rubbish Musk was spouting in the Oval Office earlier I'll just ignore it until told otherwise.

Not that it affects me.

I don't take anything I read online called 'news' unless it has a reliable source or can be backed up. It would be a different place if others did the same.

Of course he will. He'll get things moving very much in Russia's – and Putin's – direction and to their benefit. I think it's pretty obvious that has always been the plan/objective because he would rather Putin love him (or think he loves him) than Zelensky, who is not afraid to call him out for being the horrendous human being that he is.

We're only days/weeks away from Trump announcing his grand plan to turf Ukrainians out of their country, suggest they are re-homed in neighbouring countries and rebuild what's left of Ukraine as the 'Russian Riviera'.

Just use Hitchen's razor:

"What can be asserted without evidence can also be dismissed without evidence".
