I’d love to hear all of the “intelligent posters” on here their plans for the Gaza Strip. I’m not at all saying I necessarily agree with Trump’s vision, but definitely interested in hearing alternatives.

Does anyone want to give control back to Hamas?
the obvious plan is a two state solution, remove the cause for Hamas. kicking the Palestinians out and Hamas along with them will energise the cause and export their violence and ferment anti-Isreali, anti-western attitudes in countries that have been onside for decades. Trump's "plan" gives Hamas more power.

I agree with much of your post but the bold really doesn’t exist as “fact”. That’s to suggest all Palestinians are terrorists intent on destroying Israel. It is no more neutral (or accurate) to say it would take “ethnic cleansing” of all Palestinians as a people to rid Gaza of Hamas, again labelling all Palestinians jihadist extremist terrorists any more than it is true that all Jews want Palestinians kept under military oppression and not have their own right to self determination but that’s a discussion for another thread.

Trump’s recent policies on Israel and Iran have very much undermined the current ceasefire and opportunity for a peace process - exactly what Netanyahu far right minions wanted.

The West may not be the root cause of instability in the ME and its interference in resolving the Israel/Palestinian question may not be the pathway to peace. However, when our own Governments allies themselves with Countries (either by trading oil, sports, real estate or arms) that have appalling human rights records, a history of genocide or have used biological weapons on its own people, then we should speak out;

When our own Governments support, as in Israel’s case, a State pursuing expansionist policies that oppress an entire people for decades by occupying land illegally or embark on punitive conflicts that results in thousands of innocent children being slaughtered; then yes, I want my Country’s public to sit up and take notice and speak out - against human rights abuses and oppression where ever in the world it occurs and to recognise if any, the role our individual leaders have had in facilitating those conflicts and humanitarian crises in the first place. Trump is a perfect example of how our choice of leaders in Western countries can impact on conflict resolution and stability in the rest of the world.

So …

“Let not any one pacify his conscience by the delusion that he can do no harm if he takes no part, and forms no opinion. Bad men need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good men should look on and do nothing. He is not a good man who, without a protest, allows wrong to be committed in his name, and with the means which he helps to supply, because he will not trouble himself to use his mind on the subject.”. John Stewart Mill 1867.
I was trying to keep things simple and if by doing that I came over and though I thought there were only problems because of the Palestinians, I am sorry.

I think the bold part is the main problem. If some states, like Egypt and Jordan in the past, made peace with Israel and didn't act like Iran for instance, a more pragmatic approach could be held. That would allow both Palestinians and Jews to have a state that's recognised, assuming the Israelis also acted more pragmatically. Until that time there can be no resolution.

So if the noon deadline passes on Saturday without all hostages releases, what does "hell break lose" actually mean? Start the ethnic cleansing ?

That whole "performance" on why they want to bring back plastic straws was just cringey, ignorant, and embarrassing. Oh, and I've never seen a paper straw explode either.

The final comment by Trump, saying that he "doesn't think a shark will be affected by plastic straws, as theyre munching their way through the ocean", is up there with some of his most ridiculous quotes.

He is the gift that keeps giving. One minute hes talking about hell being unleashed upon a nation, the next talking about using straws with hot drinks. (Who drinks a hot drink through a straw anyway?!?)

'Consumers all over the country wildly dissatisfied with their straws'

Am I to assume, from the trending topic, that most Americans still drink through straws ?

Because they took away his crayons.
It would be funny, yet I am a bit guarded in my laughter as I realise you have to live with this madness.

But I'm sure the Crawley based Spence and his friends are showing you the right path on it.

For many years, Ohio was the only state I knew in America. My friend in primary class was from there. He had a funny accent, the first time I had heard someone speaking differently.

Is he signing that Drumpf?

Look at the D of Donald...then at where the T for Trump should be...its another D....then an "F" after the P.

I knew that was, supposedly, the original German version of his family name - but didnt realise he signed as such....??

Whether or not anyone here has the nuance to provide a viable alternative, Trumps "plan" certainly isn't one. It's not our role here to necessarily provide alternatives.

Ironically, it seems to me that Trumps "plan" will have the affect of handing control of Gaza "back" (I didn't know they'd gone) to Hamas, over a long drawn out bloody guerilla war, that could well develop into something a lot bigger.

I'm no expert but Trumps "plan" is what Amin did to the Indians in Uganda, and Hitler, Stalin, the North Vietnamese and Chinese governments did/are doing along the way - and btw what the English did to the Scottish highlanders, and to the local populations when creating Pakistan. None of which worked out well.

However, its been done once before by the USA - to the Native Americans who were moved out of their lands so that the settlers could move into the "American Rivieras" and steal the good stuff - so maybe Trump will claim precedence?
