I agree with most of what Buzzer says, with the exception of National Service, unless it is in a slightly different form.

The Government has announced recently that it wants to keep everyone in full time education till the age of 18, a laudable change in policy and something I have personally wanted to see happen for years. Maybe they could offer a form of National Service to those aged 16-18 who do not want to stay in formal or vocational education. It could take the form of boys service in one of the Armed Forces, with an option to transfer to full time service at the age of 18, or some form of community service.

It appears to me that the most disenfranchised sector of the community is the youth aged 16-18, by turning the focus towards them and giving them something structured and worthwhile to do may help alleviate some of the problems that result in them becoming the ASBO generation. I will probably be accused of being a pinko wishy-washy leftie, but I see little evidence of any Government policy in my adult life that has addressed this problem, surely this must be worth a try!

My dad was a sergent and my grandfather (god bless him) was a chief superintendant and when i was young had a lot of respect for the police, but now i have very little faith in them . They just don't seem to have any time for the small crimes anymore !
My house was burgled a few months ago and they didn't even come out they just issued me with a crime ref number. I know they are stretched and they just don't have enough resources but they seem to be ailienating the general public more and more !!

PS .............. someone was shooting at my back door with an air gun (possibly trying to hit our Jack Russell) and when I rang up they asked me on the phone........................... ''We understand what you are saying sir but are you reporting a crime.''

No I thought I`m lonely and just ringing up for a chat.

Hove, f***ing ACTUALLY.
Got a very close relative in the Sussex force who constantly tells us that the city is more or less run by Eastern European and Chinese gangs, OB have very little say in that.

It almost kicked off a few years back when that Albanian bloke was stabbed in Brunswick Sq, but there is a sort of truce that is no thanks to the OB who have basically lost control.

They seem to enjoy sitting mob handed on the A23 with 6 or 7 patrol cars, but when you hear that your nephew who is only 13 was offered drugs outside his school they seem to be conspicous by their absence.

Its not the foot soldiers, just a lack of priority that makes them USELESS overall, but many I have come across have been arrogant wankers who you can tell would rather be handing out a speeding ticket than dealing with difficult issues.

No faith in them WHATSOEVER, in fact if someone robbed me, dont think I would bother reporting it.

Which aspect of the city is run by the Eastern Europeans and the Chinese? Can't say I'd noticed that many about that they run the place.

Nor have I seen all that many police cars on the A23 either. It's quite easy to top the ton between Patcham and Hurst without seeing a rozzer about.

The Albanians run most of the prostitution and the growing street prostitution problem around London Road and the majority of the drug scene and the Chinese control the illegal gambling a few of the brothels and have a few other 'concerns'

Surprised you havent been asked for protection money.

And YES I will visit the shop soon xxx:lolol:

Both my parents were in the Police (and yes the piglet jokes have been made before) and I think it was a lot easier to police back in the 50s and early 60s.
I work extremely closely with the police now and I feel very sorry for them - the red tape is horrendous.
In the main though I think they get it right.
Crime should, however, be stopped at the source which is the parents of the little bastards who cause most of the vandalism but because of our idiotic laws ("Human Rights" - if you're a criminal you ain't got ANY right) and the way that this country has gone down the pan in the last 10 years since B.Liar took over it's going to take decades to get it right again. We're now paying for the 60s liberalisation and the "permissive society" in the shape of increased crime. It wasn't meant to be like this

I trust me but I don't trust anyone else!!

I don't understand why some people have this rose tinted view that coppers are any different from anyone else doing any other job. We have the same problems and lives that everyone else has and on top of that are simply ordinary people doing an extra-ordinary job. It should come as no surprise that sometimes you will encounter grumpy old bill who get all jobsworth and issue you a ticket or nick you, likewise on a good day and in a good mood you will be surprised what you will get let off for!! I think if a lot of people in their jobs had the same level of bullshit and accountability that I have on a daily basis they would jack it in tomorrow.

Saying that, there are some right tossers in the police although on the whole most of us are quite alright. A lot of it depends on your own (or a mates0 individual experience with the old bill. If you have had a negative experience you are unlikely to like us a great deal whereas if I turn up and you get a first class response and service then you will probably be quite positive about us.

I'd like all future posts on this thread to include your own job and then maybe I can dish out some misplaced abuse based on my own poor experience with
whatever job you do. ;)

I can live with that! Getting paid £30K+ a year to be a complete waste of space, suits me.
