By the way Collar Feeler, I did read your earlier mention that you do not represent all police, and there are bad ones out there as well. You are undoubtably going to say "it is a thankless task" but I can't help that I reserve a certain mistrust out of my experiences, however limited you think they are. I suggest YOU remember what you said, and don't attempt to speak for all the force now.

If I had caught that jewel thief on my own and wrestled his huge frame to the floor alone, and brought him in - complete with his trays of rings and swag - I would have made the papers. Instead I was looking under toilet doors because PC Plod just "knew he would stop to take a shit"! I then spent my sunny afternoon in semi-custody because I had run after (or 'with', as the jeweler perhaps interpreted) the thief until we came into the immediate domain of a constable.
I walked away knowing I was still a law-abiding citizen, but feeling a little disgruntled by the experience of ending up a suspect, and the perp (laden with gold!) being helped to put space between us....so he could count his takings while I answered pointed questions down the station!

No. The thread IS NOT about what everybody does for a living!! I don't know why you aren't 'getting' that.
What I do is absolutely irrelevent to this thread, and unless you are my client you would have no place to talk about my work. I remain disappointed in your insistences that is relevent, and more so by your sarcastic aspect and 'thanks'. No thanks to you then, whatever amount you think it is I pay for some part of your being there. I think it's more than 0.001 pence, maybe that much just for you. Then some for each of the other boys in blue eh? Still, if I pay that AND get inconvenienced and waste my time reporting - that is costing a smidgeon more. I realise that there are the people arrested and incarcerated who WOULD mean me harm, that you people keep from the ability to do so.
As much as I appreciate that fact, I don't personally 'trust' the police, I think there will always be something left to be desired!

My "limited experience" is something I can only be thankful for. Based on the few times I personally encountered their/your professional attentions, I would rather not put it to any more of the test! Respecting what you stand for is one thing, encountering experiences meted out to equal that respect is another. I'm not talking from the perpective of someone who just read about Blair Peach, Giant Haystacks, or the Menezes lad either.

Listen mate - I have gone beyond the simple part of putting a dot in the NO box. There are 31 others - I only gave one dot. I'm not spitting fire and brimstone but my response is abviously cutting and uncompromising for you. I do NOT 'hate the police', I am simply saying why it is I did not just put my dot in another box in this poll.

In my business I listen to my clients and try to put their complaints - when they may have one - right. I don't bring into it how much they paid, make fun of how little it is a drop in my bucket!!

Do you think MY clients would speak well of me, and underline trust in me if I ask them what THEY do for a living, try to belittle their bad experiences, and tell them how tiny they paid me??

:nono:

But what we really want to know is who would win a FIGHT between The Sweeney and The Professionals.

Personally I think that Regan and Carter would MULLER them.

George Phillips of Meridian, Mississippi was going up to bed when his
wife told him that he'd left the light on in the garden shed, which she
could see from the bedroom window.

George opened the back door to go turn off the light but saw that there
were people in the shed stealing things.

He phoned the police, who asked "Is someone in your house?" and he said
"no". Then they said that all patrols were busy, and that he should
simply lock his door and an officer would be along when available.
George said, "Okay," hung up, counted to 30, and phoned the police
again.

"Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people in
my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now because I've just
shot them all." Then he hung up.

Within five minutes three police cars, an Armed Response unit, and an
ambulance showed up at the Phillips' residence and caught the burglars
red-handed.

One of the Policemen said to George: "I thought you said that you'd shot
them!"

George said, "I thought you said there was nobody available!"

True story.
