Without Sky money we would still be in crumbling wrecks of stadia that had a trough to piss in, dangerous with the best footballer on show being someone like Joleen Lescott. Bergkamp, Henry, Zola & Torres would never have come to England.

Or we could be like Germany: being able to stand and watch top games for less than a tenner, with the chance to drink beer while watching the game - which will be in a competitive league.

Admittedly there wouldn't be many world class players on show but I'd happily sacrifice that for the chance to stand in cheap terracing again.

I think its all very well us Brighton fans saying that as to be fair we are light years away from a premiership outfit, but I think you will find that you ask fans of clubs that have benefitted from Murdochs billions and are watching some of the best players in the world week in and week out, they will have different views

I dont have freeview, so i dont really understand the complete concept of it all, i have never even looked into having freeview.

But i wonder how long it will be before pay tv is offered through that system ? i doubt it will be that long.

Too far from the sun
But Sky IS where all the money's coming from

And it IS all the money that's ruining the game

Ergo, I can and will blame Sky
It is NOT the money that's runing the game - it's how it's distributed. If Sky weren't paying it then someone else (Setanta, ESPN, Canal+) would be paying instead.

The ones to blame are the greedy plc clubs who threaten breakaway leagues if they don't get their own way and the FA who give in to them.

At the foot of the downs
Does anyone not agree that the current success of the Scottish team (relatively speaking) as anything to do with SKY dropping the SPL a few years back forcing the bigger clubs to nurture young national players instead of being able to buy foreign 'stars' in ???

No just happy paying for a product. If I put 40 a month into the Albion all I get is the possibility of a manager spunking the money up the wall on Turienzo. For 40 a month I can watch the cricket. Like I'm doing now.

Sky is here and if people don't want to pay for it that fine. But I do object to people going all Jehovahs witness and saying what I should be spending my money on. Especially when they aren't even paying into the 40 notes funds themselves.

I assume this statement is about myself.

I have actually paid into the Forty note fund and will continue to as and when i have funds available - i know this way that Albion can only use it on players and the team will benefit and hopefully the results.

For the record i am beyond wasting loads of money on Sky/Beer when IMO there are far better things to spend it on.

As for Jehovahs you could be further from the truth.

1.5m you could be part of it!

I'm not sure that's true. Certainly, if you asked fans of the Big Four then, yes, they would be very much in favour of the Sky money (although even then, there were several hundred Man U fans who gave up their support when Glazer bought into the club).

But would it apply to other clubs in the Premiership? You only have to listen to a radio phone-in or look at a football website to notice that Spurs and Newcastle fans complaining vociferously at their lot - they certainly don't seem happy with what Murdoch millions. Or consider Everton fans: they won Championships in the 60s, 70s and 80s, but the best they have done in the last 10 years is one fourth place and no sniff of getting higher.

I don't know this for sure, but I wouldn't mind betting that if you asked the Everton fans whether they would prefer to watch an Everton packed with world-class players finishing mid-table, or whether they would prefer to see Everton win the League but with the likes of today's equivalent of Mick Lyons, they would opt for the latter in their thousands. As would the fans of every other club.

Attendances in the Premier League have been steadily falling in the last decade (and that's despite increased capacity at Man U, Arsenal, Newcastle and other grounds). That suggests to me that fans of clubs outside the Big Four aren't exactly overwhelmed by what's being offered to them.

There's a fair few world class players in Germany: Luca Toni, Frank Ribery, Deigo, Klose, Scheinstager, Lahm

Yep we've got Sky and all the trimmings including multi-room. We pay about £50-£60 a month (not sure of the exact figure). There's a lot of things we'd give up before the satellite dish.

If other people don't want it that's fair enough, but I do feel some of the criticism of it (and Murdoch) on here is similar to what we used to hear about TV in general back in the 60s and 70s - namely that it's the tool of the Devil and decent people live without it.

Nope. Never have, never will (unless it changes drastically). Sky is worse than ITV, and I don't even bother with that even though it's free. I certainly wouldn't pay for such crap.

As it is, I currently have no telly at all (nearly 9 months now). It's bliss, and I don't miss it. We may get around to fixing it - my partner is missing some of her soaps - but I'm in no rush.

I have the full package with movies and sports which costs €68. Treated ourselves to a new Sony Bravia LCD at the weekend and looking into HD but not sure if there enough channels to warrent the extra money???

Question to MYOB: is the freeview thing built into my TV worthless over here?

Where you are, yes, for at least 6 months

Where I am - no, but it gets you the basic analogue channels in digital, and some radio stations, thats all.

When it gets down your end of the country there may be more content, there might not be...
