Got Virgin + had it for about three years now. (includes pretty much everything) We seriously considered switching to SKY when we reallised how bad ntl was but Virgin have been better. The only drag was that they took away some good channels like Sky One, SSN and Sky news. They gave us satanta for free though, but Id rather have the other channels back. So the answer to the original question is no.

I cannot believe so many people waste 100's of pounds on sky and therefore adding to the wealth of all those premiership teams and potentially ruining our national side if they all put it in the Forty note fund instead or Murdochs pocket we could buy some extra quality.

Ie.

2 thirds of 5000 fans = 3332 fans (Figures supplied by NSC official poll)

let's say average £40/month Sky package

3332 X £40 = £133'280 x 12months = 1'599'360

1.5m a year has does that sound anyone?

Do YOU pay your £40 a month into the 40 notes Fund?

No i don't but if i had forty notes spare a month i would - i certainly would not waste it on a luxury as sky is IMO.
I would rather put it in the Players fund.

Sounds sensible to me but you do have to remember that a lot of people on this board support Premiership teams so they're perfectly happy pumping money into the already rich teams.

No just happy paying for a product. If I put 40 a month into the Albion all I get is the possibility of a manager spunking the money up the wall on Turienzo. For 40 a month I can watch the cricket. Like I'm doing now.

Sky is here and if people don't want to pay for it that fine. But I do object to people going all Jehovahs witness and saying what I should be spending my money on. Especially when they aren't even paying into the 40 notes funds themselves.

Waiting for the sky man today as it happens! HD box is my treat for Xmas - £99 absolute flippin bargain! Comet doing the deal until 24th December instore if you agree to have their phone service too. Dont really care who I pay for the calls, bt, orange, sky - as long as there's a dial tone when I lift the receiver! Sky itself wanted £299 for the HD box! Even though I've been a customer for years! Crazy!

I'd never pay for Murdoch's media monopoly, no matter how much sport and entertainment they snap up and steal from the rest of us.

Interestingly I read yesterday that Freeview has only just overtaken Sky as the most widespread TV package in the country. Long may it continue.

And for all the people who moan about the ludicrous amounts of money in football, too many foreigners in the Premiership, lack of quality home-bred coaches etc. Cancel your Sky subscription. It's this money that's ruining our national game.

Why should we be forced to pay several times to watch a match (TV Licence, Sky subscription, extra money for Sports package AND extra PPV money for certain games)? It's an absolute joke. I know hardly anybody who has the money for the full Sky package so for a big footie match I'm forced to spend my money in the boozer, who in turn are coughing up insane amounts of money just for the privilege.

It is a fairly well known fact that Sky wouldn't exist today had it not been for the Premiership football rights they controversially won from ITV back in the 90's under a storm of corruption. The entire network survives off hungry sports fans. Take that away and they'll soon start struggling, the ludicrous sums of cash spoiling football at the top level would dry up, and us grass roots fans would end up reaping the reward, eventually.

This poll proves just that. On a national level more households are without Sky than with, and yet of NSC'ers, there are significantly more Sky subscribers than those of us who don't pay for it. Because it's the sports fan who's coughing up and keeping the satellite rip off merchants in business.

STOP PAYING SKY and you're a lot closer to getting football back to the way it was when it was genuinely enjoyable from the top to the bottom

Virgin Internet was f***ed last night for some reason.

And the V+ box spend ages flashing away ( normally does that when Virgin are sending something down the line).

Not sure if it is working today

Absolutely. It was so much better in the 70's when Sky wasn't around. That'll be when we didn't qualify for the 74 & 78 World Cup. Our national game was so much better and there was nothing to watch on TV either.

Sky money isn't without problems. But comments such as the above are total bollocks. Perhaps English coaches might want to understand why Arsene Wengers team produce quality football and he can buy quality players cheaply rather than the staple English tactic of lumping long balls up to Peter Crouch. That would be a start.

My Virgin internet went on the blink last night (quite literally - the "ready" light on my modem was blinking). I switched it off and on again, but unbelievably this made no difference whatsoever.

Hope its back up tonight. Glad it wasn't just me.

Cast your mind back to the pre-Sky days and you have a handful of live games - usually the FA Cup final plus one or two others, plus Match of the Day and The Big Match. And that was it. Although we were getting a few more live games it was a massive change when Sky came along. It's not their fault that the FA set out the bidding the way they do and distribute the cash the way they do. Sky just provide a service which is optional and, as has been said before, doesn't really cost that much compared to a few pints of beer in the pub.

It's a simple choice - if you like the product and the price then buy it - if you don't want to you don't have to. None of us are FORCED to pay for anything - we just chose to do so. If you think stopping paying Sky will get football back to how it was before you are living in a dreamland.

But Sky IS where all the money's coming from

And it IS all the money that's ruining the game

Ergo, I can and will blame Sky

Without Sky money we would still be in crumbling wrecks of stadia that had a trough to piss in, dangerous with the best footballer on show being someone like Joleen Lescott. Bergkamp, Henry, Zola & Torres would never have come to England.

The only constant is that the national team would still be shit.
