Its funny all the bad signings are Dick Knights fault while all the good signings must be Dean Wilkins. Weird that. I always thought the managers were responsible for bringing in the team.

So Mcfaul and Dixon were obviously Knight while the genius signings of the likes of Murray were Wilkins'? Sounds a bit fishy to me...

:lolol:

I always thought it was White that when out for players and signed them.

I do i know tho eh? Nada.

They are responsible. The bile that is being spewed up on this thread is to serve one agenda and one only - to justify their own views on Dick Knight. They have absolutely no basis of truth whatsoever because the truth is that nobody of any integrity actually knows - not bhadeb and her f***ing ridiculous crusade, not Mr Burns, not anybody.

The players will get identified - DK and the manager will meet the player, DK will do the negotiations - that's exactly what happens at every club.

As I have said many times before, during all the problems of Bas Savage, George O'Callaghan, Dean Hammond etc etc, where did Dean Wilkins EVER come out in the press and support either the Chairman or the clubs position on wages and contract negotiations?? The whole situation was left to the chairman to fight in the press, sometimes against support opinion - AGAIN - having been left high and dry by the manager because he simply wasn't interested about getting involved in those types of discussions. And that's not because 'I know' - that's just what happened. Sorry, but you cannot absolve yourself of those kind of responsibilities, and ultimately, that will cost you your job if you chose to support the workers and not support your boss.

In completely unrelated businesses I have seen three people do the same, one of whom was a CEO - and guess what the outcome was on each occasion.

Some people do not seem to be able to grasp the basic rules of business and, although we may not like it, the Albion is a business.

If DW comes out in the press telling players to take less money than they want, supporting the club's decisions to hold out on the player, what will that do to his position in the changing room? What worker wants to work for someone who won't go to bat for them against the upper management?

If DW supports the player, the board play the bad guys, the manager can honestly say he did his best, the players in the locker room know they have a manager who wants them, and will fight his own employers for them, and maybe they give the extra effort that means the difference between mid table, and 7th.

How many managers come out and criticise players during negotiations?

I am sorry Garry but you have me confused here, are you saying that you do know someone with the integrity that confirms these people are wrong.
Is this person of integrity informing you that player recruitment is carried out this way at the club?
Because unless you name that person, why should people believe you rather than bhdeb or Mr Burns or in fact any fan who has serious doubts on how this happens at the Albion.

I think the question here is do they get identified by the manager as a player he wants or DK and Barry Lloyd as who they think he should have?

I think it's been proved that Knight and Lloyd signed players that Wilkins hadn't even heard of let alone wanted

But what if you think your right or even know you are right and the boss is blatantly wrong?

Was Peter Taylor Right to leave? Was Coppell right to leave when he wasn't asked to stay?
Two very respected managers perhaps there is only so much you can take from his chairmanship.

Maybe Dick is unable to reason with strong quality managers, we are f***ed then all the time he is at the helm.

So basically we need a lap dog, not for me thanks.

No Tony I'm not, I'm saying that what they are sprouting is the bile to serve their own agenda - not NECESSARILY something the reflects the truth.

Well I don't know what their agenda's are, but I have heard enough to suggest to me that the selection of players is not always of the choice or knowledge of the manager.
And that does worry me and I have no agenda against a man that saved this club.

MR BURNS, and other knockers, why dont you put your money where your mouth is,you obviously know nothing about the finances and finer points of running a club, if you did you would know just what DICK KNIGHT HAS DONE FOR THIS CLUB and is still doing so. A clear case of cutting your nose to spite your face.

On the day when Cheltenham announce that their whole squad is available to cut costs and stay alive, the bollocks spouted by the anti club birgade on 3 or 4 threads on here today is a bit rich

There is anecdotal evidence that Glenn Murray was initially watched by Barry Lloyd, DW was asked if he needed a decent striker, said yes, and one duly arrived.

What's the problem with that? Alex Ferguson signed Ronaldo and Vidic on the basis on scouting reports, it is not unusual as the manager can't be in ten places at once.
