I understand that David Weir has family connections in the NW and so this may work from a family perspective for him.
We’d also get compo and there’s a certain unemployed but experienced DOF around who has a few quid in the bank, has a nice garden and wouldn’t cost compo to get in.
According to Wikipedia, three of his children play football for clubs in the North West:

Jensen at Wigan
Lucas at Northwich
Kenzie at Everton

And why not? Pay him from the compo we got from Newcastle…… for him. TB and PB working their magic
Because his skill is in setting up infrastructure and long term strategy, the main reason he was courted by Newcastle was because he had a track record of joining up the Women's, Men's and Academy side of the business under one idea as he had done with us. He did that really well at Brighton and at Newcastle. Genuinely perplexed as to why he was hired by United when all they seem to do is want to cut everything atm.

I'm not sure Ashworth's expertise would be best suited for us in the current moment if Weir were to go.

This, need someone to run it, not design it/set it up.

You laugh but, I would :)
Yep. And if this were to do with a Coaching appointment people would be all over it, like many were with Potter in the Summer.

From the outside it's very hard to discern what any particular individual in the back room contributes, so I don't think any of us can accurately assess his value to the club, other than the fact we're doing well and he must have contributed.

What I think we can say is that although Brighton succession plan as well as anyone, losing senior backroom staff as regularly as we do can't be doing us any good. There's always a learning period for a new job holder and always a period of uncertainty. What I think would be great is a period of stability, where we get our people in key positions to have a run of 3, 4 or 5 seasons.

I agree, but in this instance we seem to have thought ahead and Weir's had a deputy for the last two and a bit years so hopefully he will be well equipped to take over or at least cover for the time being.

It’s obvious he’ll go, but what is more worrying, is we always hear what a fantastic club we are, how well run we are and we’re such an amazing club to be involved with……..yet never does anyone come out and say…..no I’m not going to (whoever) I love it at the Albion, they’re always very keen to jump ship at the first opportunity!

Are we a bit of a soft touch ?

Maybe, but also it's a club that doesn't – or tries not to – stand in the way of people who want to leave. It's clear DW has a connection with Everton and it is potentially back on the rise after some tough times. So it's probably a good opportunity for him.

I would also imagine that, as in all walks of life, despite how much people love their job, money talks. So when the big PL spenders come knocking, it's difficult to turn the offer down.
