My point exactly, we never try and keep what we’ve got and allow other clubs to take what they want.
At some point letting our staff just wander off to whoever flashes their knickers at them is going to bite us on the arse badly !
The only person we’ve thrown more money at and made it difficult for him to leave is PB
How do you know that ?

So presumably you haven't listened to Paul Barber numerous times explaining the ethos of the club and the idea of succession planning.

The club knows it's punching well above is weight with the quality of staff it employs and is prepared for the eventuality that some in important positions will inevitably move on. Without that blessing from above, it is possible that BHA wouldn't attract the highest quality in the first place.

Of course I’ve heard it, but at some point, if we want to move to the next level, we have to stop rolling over and try and keep a team together for longer than a season.

We all know consistency is key when you build something, and the constant change of personnel isn’t going to bring that.

I’m not forgetting where we’ve come from and I certainly don’t have ideas of grandeur but there’s no reason we couldn’t be a regular top 5/6/7 side if we could keep our best players and staff for more than 1 decent season

I hear your frustration. Sometimes the club has said no, as in Caicedo and others when the timing of a bid is wrong. But it is very difficult to hold off the vultures, look at Leicester after they won the league, they lost Mahrez amongst others and that was with the prospect of champions league football. As we become more established, we hope to be top of the pile of the clubs immediately under the 'Big 6' type clubs, this would definitely aid our recruitment/retention and there are signs of this already. David Weir has been at the Albion for 6 years, quite a long time in a job in my opinion so if his former club come calling, I for one will wish him well as he has served us well.

I tend to agree. Everton undoubtedly has a big place in his heart and played a big role in his career. Captain under Moyes and Smith, over 250 appearances and nearly 10 years there.

It's the one club I saw as being appealing enough for him to go to, especially with Moyes there as manager.

Not too fussed about weir. Has plodded along nicely over the last few years but strikes me as a dour scot and got a bit lucky with all the departures for his promotions. He won't do anything at a joke club like everton and we will get fat compensation and a much better foreigner (German) in the door.

We've had PB for a decade. We just turned down £65m for Mitoma. Your theory doesn't hold water.

Because his skill is in setting up infrastructure and long term strategy, the main reason he was courted by Newcastle was because he had a track record of joining up the Women's, Men's and Academy side of the business under one idea as he had done with us. He did that really well at Brighton and at Newcastle. Genuinely perplexed as to why he was hired by United when all they seem to do is want to cut everything atm.

I'm not sure Ashworth's expertise would be best suited for us in the current moment if Weir were to go.
This !

TB made PB vice chairman with a very substantial pay rise to tie him to the club, it was well publicised at the time.
Thus proving the point that the club DOES maker efforts to hold on to people

I never understand the thought process from some that the club if it wants , can simply hold on to people who want to move-. If someone doesn't want to be at the place they are working-(football related or anywhere, they leave, Contracts , agreements are all effectively meaningless in football, simply because the amount of money available to make them go away. They are just bargaining chips for the amount of compensation. The club has for as years stated that they understand this, and have in place a demonstrably excellent succession plan in place to mitigate when someone does leave

This is as true for us as it is for Worthing FC and Man City, or Real Madrid. The bigger the club , the more expensive it is, but we are kidding ourselves if we think we can force someone to stay if they want to go

Dour Scots have a pretty decent record in football though, especially in management 🙂

I know no more than you do, but generally speaking if we’d made counter offers to convince someone to stay I’m pretty sure it would be reported on somewhere.

It was interesting when we went after McKenna in the Summer, Ipswich persuaded him to stay, partly by making him one of the highest paid PL managers. But who knows if in the long term that was the right thing to do - they look like they'll get relegated anyway and they would then have his huge salary on their books in the Championship. The best decision isn't always obvious from the outside.

On top of this, there have been plenty of instances in the past few years, where the Albion staff member has chosen to stay with us over the bigger club for a number of reasons and the club has made an effort to hold on to them.

What the club don't do, and have a well documented policy of not doing, is stand in the way of a person for the sake of it. If they want out and the future employer is willing to pay us the required amount to release them from their contract, then it's basically a done deal. If those two things don't happen, the club will make the effort to not only retain them, but reward them for getting back to business with the Albion.

Ah, like Aaron Mooy, Reda Khadra, Kacper Kosłowski, Michał Karbownik and Andi Zequiri. .

(yes, also Caicedo, Mac Allister, Trossard and Mitoma but it's not all success success success )
What was his record at the Barcodes and MUFC (even though he was only there for about five minutes)?

Genuine question – I have no idea.
