Had my bike nicked tonight...Chained up to a post in Poole Valley...

Any of the lovely cycling family on here got any advice on how to go about dealing with the matter re the old bill etc...

Can you insist on getting CCTV looked at or is it best just to write it off...

Thanks in advance

Sorry to hear that.

Only experience I had with police and CCTV wasn't very good. A car hit our parked car overnight and wrote it off, leaving no details. Police weren't very helpful regarding CCTV, despite there being cameras in that road. Insurance company kept pushing us to keep asking the police but it clearly wasn't going anywhere after the first couple of attempts.

Still ask them though if there are cameras in that area. If you don't ask you won't know what they have. Can do no harm to try.

I'd also keep an eye on local classified ads too, in case it turns up there.

Good luck.

I put mine on stolen-bikes.co.uk, but never recovered it. Might be worth a go though.

Keep an eye on FB and Fleabay. Not just the whole bike, but if there are distinctive parts, it'll probably get split up if it stays local.

Police are a waste of time.

I know you must all be fraught regarding news on The Strat - sadly there's not much to report.

It would seem when I thought I'd ordered brake levers I didn't.
So they're now on their way.

As for the stem I'm now going for Plan B.
I've bought a clamp in the hope I can attach it to the old stem, which I'll cut down and stick a bar end into the top.

It had better work as I have everything to complete the bike, all I've got to do is get the handlebars to attach!

Get the stem to me and I'l see if I can get it lathed down. Hand it over at the ground tomorrow?

That's very kind of you (although neither of us are going to the ground tomorrow! ).

The new stem is with my son's boss, at the moment, so I couldn't anyway.
That said I'd like to see you get into the ground with an all in one stem/clamp combo.
Barber-out would have a fit, even if it's in an A4 clear plastic bag .

I have high hopes for Plan B.
If the clamp can get tight enough on the old stem then not only is it good to go.
All I'd have to do, to tidy it up, is buy another tube the same width.

Stay tuned for next week's thrilling installment titled:-

'how can I get a fully tightened bolt to tightened 2mm more?'.

Hahahaha I did order the brake levers, on the 10th, they've just arrived.

In the same post as the set I ordered on the 19th.

Sore arse. Had the saddle 15 years and we have to go our separate ways.
Road bike needs a comfy seat.
Suggestions please.

After 10 days away, I was hoping to come back to some glorious photos of "The Strat" cruising up and down the prom in bright sunshine

Its almost like watching Pinot going for the win, and being disappointed yet again when he gets caught just before the line.

Maybe tomorrow will bring NSC some Pinot-esque joy as we see it finally unveiled & across the line...

Plan B stem has been despatched - that's all I need, if Plan B works.
If it doesn't then I'm screwed.

Impossible to recommend anything as everyone is different.

THE most important thing to do is to measure your sit bones. A piece of chalk and cardboard will do that job for you (YouTube it).

Then buy a saddle the correct width for you

Edit: This method seems even better!

That worked a treat even but did worry the wife.

I thought he was going to launch into a full scale Art Attack at first with all those bits :D

Saddles are such a personal thing...I've lost count of the number I've got through over the years.
Interestingly (or not) - when I got my Cinelli I was ready to swap out the saddle straight away for my old Rolls - but the own brand "C-Wing" that it came with was so comfy that I've left it on there. Fits like a glove.

My CB bitser work hack is just about done, ridden it a few weeks now and all adjusted/comfy.

Have ordered a new seat post as it should be 26.4mm not 26.2 and keeps slipping.

mudguards £15 off eabay, needed a tweak as the campag brakes are short reach, rear rack liberated from a dumped scrapper . . . took the Campag rear mech off for a Suntour one I had laying about which has a long reach and so I have all the cogs. just need to cable up the front mech, although don't really need it.
would be nice to find a campag rear mech, but probably cost as much as the bike!!!
