Very interesting, they are basically saying it's a violation of the child's body and prevents them from choosing their own faith later on.

Muslims have circumcision, too. (Or some of them do there was a story in the guardian about this earlier in the week that focused on a muslim couple from Turkey who had recently moved to Germany).

Though, admittedly, my mind first went to jews + german action "against them". But on thinking about it some more, aren't people who might defend the rights of jewish parents to circumcise their sons the same who talk about the female circumcision in some tribal cultures as barbaric?

I was circumcised and nobody in my family is religious. It's just a tradition in some families I suppose.

Nothing to do woth Jesus! (In fact in the gospel of Thomas, Jesus said don't bother with it). It is from the Book of Genesis ewhen God told Abraham 'This is My covenant which you shall keep, between Me and you and your descendants after you: Every male child among you shall be circumcised; and you shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between Me and you. He who is eight days old among you shall be circumcised,'

Although I don't understand that if God did not want foreskins why the hell did he create man with them? Just another bizarre religious ritual. It should be banned as it is just barbaric.

I completely agree with them.

At the end of the day, it is elective cosmetic surgery that is being performed without the consent of the patient. This wouldn't be allowed with any other permanent body modification, so why allow this one?
