For me it is as much a part of Brighton's heritage as the Pavilion , The Lanes, and The Palace Pier.

I think it's a disgrace it's being sold.

How long before the idiots who voted these idiots in, realise what a huge error they have made.

Didn't realise it was being sold!
But wasn't that given to us as a gift, so actually never cost us anything anyway?!
I personally don't think it should go. Can't we keep anything these days!

Couldn't give a toss personally but the Greens are deluded if they think they'll get £160k for it.

Agree with you about the Greens in general though.

End of an era, but it just depends what the 160K gets spent on. If it was something worthy like towards a kids playground then yes it
would be good but if it is just to be spent on the Greens loony traffic changes on Lewes Road then that would be sad.

My grandfather ran the miniature coaches in Peter Pan's Playground for many years. He gave Brighton Council some special number plates that he had for the coaches (short numbers and a 999 plate) and I had a childhood memory that CD1 was one of them. Sadly no-one left who could confirm it or otherwise :(

Very much this. Why does the mayor need a private plate and what is the significance of CD1?

For all you non Brightonians CD1 was the first plate issued in Brighton way back in 1904.

I know that but I still fail to see why a bit of plastic with a two letters and a number on it can be such a sentimental item ? To compare it to the Pavilion is, well, just plain stupid !

Indeed, and until the new format was introduced *CD on a car reg meant that it was originally registered in Brighton, *NJ and *YJ also signify a Brighton registered car.

It's the significance isn't it. The first ever licence plate issued in Brighton, now proudly adorns the mayors limo.
