I think the party you're on about is one the OP votes for, the one that is currently in power and the one that is reducing grants to local councils who then have to sell assets they own.

My children are Brightonians one born at the RSCH the other here at home. It will be part of their heritage.

My elders taught me a lot about Brighton but none of them cared enough to mention this plate you think is so precious, perhaps its an "on show" thing that appeals to you that is in your nature. There is so much more interesting things about Brighton you can be educating them with.

I didn't actually do the research, another family member did.

Strange this. I was brought up in Brighton and I have always known and presumed most people knew that the Mayor's car was CD1 and this was because CD was the main Brighton Registration number. I didn't know the story of the 1st registration in 1904 of course.

All this was helped by the fact that most boys my age had their dads copy of the AA book and in the back was all these CD, UF, AP prefixes and where they were from. When we went away on holiday in the 1960's or for a long drive you would look up number plates to see where the people were from. Helped to while away the hours. I know plenty of my old school mates did the same. Did anyone else on here do that?

You can qualify it all you like, saying "it's only a number plate". I expect you all said something similar when Archer and his cronies sold my towns football ground, because they wanted the money.
