I really dont want Capello.
Its Sven all over again.

They really should at least intervioew an english\british candidate.
Capello is not really similar to Sven, he's not afraid to drop "big" players, he doesn't take shite from anyone, all that WAG crap surrounding the last World Cup, that would NEVER happen with Capello.

As regards David Beckham I believe that whoever is manager will give him his 100th cap against Switzerland in February even if only as a sub and then make a decision on his future after that game.

I would start him, then say thats your lot - we need to look to 2010

The fact that they're seemingly going for Capello over Lippi is ridiculous - Lippi has WON the world cup!

One can imagine the headlines after a dull defensive 0-1 to Switzerland:

CRAPELLO OUT.

I heard an italian journalist being interviewed and when asked if Capello was confident he said that Capello makes Mourinho look insecure

when capello is announced am I allowed to say " I told you so". I put on here when McClaren got the heave ho that he would get the job

"sits back with pipe and slippers and basks in unfounded glory"
Well I am basking too as I said when Mcclaren was given the job that it should have gone to Capello as he is a much better manager:)

Agreed. Start him, give him the captaincy for the one-off game and they say ta-ta:bigwave:

Not sure you do sa ta-ta to him, on the basis he is still one of the better options on the right.

However if he wants to potentially be involved in the England set up until the next World Cup, the new manager should insist he gets himself fitted up with a European team as the standard he is playing in is poor.

I think that against Switzrland Terry will be either, injured, ill or not available so the new manager can make Beckham captain for the game without upsetting anybody and he will get his 100th cap. The chances of him still being involved come September playing in the Rymans League of America are very remote.

Even if he went on loan to a European side the chances are remote becausea new manager, whoever it is , will want to go foreward and DB will at the best be a squad player to come on if needed in an emergency. His place will be taken by David Bentley who can also cross a good ball.

Ideally giving Beckham his 100th cap and then that being the end of his international career would be the best scenario. The issue is at present, nobody has really shown they can replace him and whilst that is the case he should certainly still be in the squad.

As far as I know there is no hit list or pecking order of candidates. Behind closed doors I expect that there are a handful of candidates that the FA would be happy with, i.e. Mourinho, O'Neill, Capello, Houllier, Benitez.

That's fine, provided we don't get into a situation where all of those 'A' list candidates pull out and we're left with the dregs, a la McLaren.

I like what I hear about Capello, but the guy can't speak English, and even if he learns he's still going to sound inarticulate and stilted for some months to come. I'd feel a lot happier if he had, say, Gianfranco Zola as his No.2.

As for Beckham, I think time has moved on. Both parties benefitted by Real winning La Liga, and Beckham wants his 100th cap, so if Capello gives that to him I'm sure that situation will have been resolved.

The more interesting point could be about the England captaincy. It really wouldn't surprise me if Capello made some bold moves with that regard.

Pavilionairre could well be right re the captaincy because Capello took Carnavarro who is ball playing centre back to Real Madrid and may prefer the Rio Ferdinand type centre back than a stopper like Terry, which then may open the door for Woodgate to replace Terry.

I am not a Terry lover either as I believe that he makes too many mistakes that other defenders have to cover for him. My actual preference alongside Ferdinand when he is fit is Ledley King but he appears a long way off of being fit at the moment, failing that Woodgate.

Deadly Ledley was supposed to make his comeback with the reserves this week so he might be back soon. Just read that he did indeed make his comeback tuesday night in the reserves and came through unscathed :)
