Nicky Shorey maybe deserves one more chance, but the games I've seen him for England he's looked out of his depth. Is Hoyte out on loan or sitting in the stands for Arsenal? He's another that is not good enough. Derbyshire has been in rubbish form all season.

I'm all for picking young players, bringing through a new generation. But they need to be good enough, they need to merit selection. Glen Johnson certainly doesn't. Nor does Hoyte. Derbyshire needs to be on form to be picked (we've always complained that 'class' players out of form get picked, and you want to pick a youngster who is out of form!). And Sidwell cannot justify his selection for as long as he sits on the bench at Chelsea.

Sidwell's been getting games and Johnson's been shining in the first team for a successful Pompey side this season....plenty of clean sheets (especially at home) at the mo'.

Granted Derbyshire needs to regain his earlier form but Hoyte's in the same boat as, say, Crouch isn't he?!

Pressuming he will build the team around Rooney (one of the few genuine young English talents), not sure that system will work.

I'd presume if he did play that Rooney would play not as the one but as one of the three, I can see him being used as a continental "number 10" type player.
