I love Woodgate but he's been poor this season and like King, injuries are alarmingly common. Apart from those two to replace Terry we don't really have a lot. Campbell's old, Dawson's getting worse

Read the interview with Seedorf on the bbc site. To me he sounds like the perfect man manager, won't take any crap from the primadonas. Certainly won't be back chatted either in the press or personally.

He has the excellent record we all know of, and an interesting reason as to why he was appointed manager of Milan. Berlusconi obviously knew of him from his playing career, but was also highly impressed with him in a business capacity where he was a high level manager for one of his companies.

This man has style, quality, a proven track record of success and general all round intelligence. For once we appear to have the man for the job.

Be good to see Capello get the job. He's said he wants it, has won a bucketload of quality silverware AND will apparantly take no shit from anyone.

Also, I'd have to agree with Badger that he has the edge over Lippi because he can win trophies he's yet to win.

With regards Gary Neville taking over the captaincy, I'd sooner see McClaren given his job back

Deadly Ledley was supposed to make his comeback with the reserves this week so he might be back soon. Just read that he did indeed make his comeback tuesday night in the reserves and came through unscathed :)

I read that also but apparently looked very rusty and will need a number of games before consideration for the first team.

It is irrelevant who the manager is.....neither Capello or anyone else will turn the ever decreasing pool of huff-and-puff merchants we currently have into the skillful players that are needed to win a tournament.

The team is pants. End of. Surround an Enlgand player with european talent and he looks good....surround an England player with other England players and he looks rubbish......I wonder why?

dont need the best players to win tournaments if you have a manager who can organise and get the best - greece being the example

....but they have some skillful players. I dont recall Greece charging round the field aimlessly and then lumping the ball up to a tall fella when they run out of ideas.

I am not a Terry lover either as I believe that he makes too many mistakes that other defenders have to cover for him. My actual preference alongside Ferdinand when he is fit is Ledley King but he appears a long way off of being fit at the moment, failing that Woodgate.

Carragher! Capello will get him back where he belongs in the England squad as one of his first tasks in the role.

As for Capello himself...he's the ideal man for the job (for all the reasons mentioned above). He, Lippi and Mourinho were my three choices, with Redknapp, O'Neill, Hiddink, Scolari and others distant runners-up.

Capello is tactically first class and virtually peerless in that regard, has the right age and experience and a PROPER air of authority. He makes strong decisions (regardless of controversy) like he has hot dinners, has style, articulation (don't worry about language - he'll learn that very quickly I'm sure (and will have Zola to fill the cracks early on anyway)) and will NOT persist in player combinations that don't work (wyou know who I mean!).

Oh, and he wants the job (has done for 6 years apparently) and IS ACTUALLY AVAILABLE!!! :O Has reputedly turned down Barca in recent years amonst others so to want this job instead smacks of just the kinda guy we want.

For once, we are pursuing the right men....English? IF we had a candidate to GENUINELY compare to Lippi and Capello I'd be keen, but let's face it, we don't.

I'd happily see Harry Redknapp get it if we had to have an English coach by law, but with rich pickings on the football tree at present, I'd rather get the ripest fruit.

As for any notions of winning ugly, I'm happy to suffer boring our way to WC glory if necessary, though I don't think it'll quite be like that if we were ever to triumph.

Let's win something before we worry about how pretty it is....we haven't exactly mesmerised the world as we've heroically failed our way along the road, have we?!

Capello's won the league at every club he's managed (Real, Juve, Roma, Milan), as well as the European Cup/Champions League, is highly respected in the football world and apparently more than willing to boot the 'WAG culture' into touch and ensure that the players focus on the task at hand.

That'll do me.

According SSN virtually a done deal just minior talks to iron out a few points. Will be announced as the new manager before the weekend.

Hope Capt Haddock is wrong about Carragher as he is not good enough in any one specialist position for England but OK in about 3 as a stand by.

You just KNOW he'll be universally known as Crapello the first time the pikey millionaires can't be arsed to show any kind of enthusiasm for winning some friendly against some random team whose country name ends in 'STAN'. Oh, and the papers today are already branding him a Fascist sympathiser on account of his admiration for the former Spanish dictator, General Franco.

This is REALLY going to go well then...

You kidding BG...look at Liverpool's defensive record over the last 2/3 years. Last season they were second only to the ultra-miserly Chelski 'stoppers'.:O
