So let's get this straight. West country wisdom that says a team that needs a win and a draw to get into the playoffs should try for the win, not the draw, away at the third placed team instead of at home against the 23rd place team.
Seems to me that today we learned how to avoid defeat at the Gate if we face you in the playoffs. Failed to score, didn't you...
The 'celebration' as you call it, was simply our players appreciating the number of fans who turned up and the amount of noise that we make throughout the game.
You have to admit we outsung you, even with your drum.
No juan we didnt score but thats not my point , if you had actually attacked us instead of having 1 measily shot on target you probably would have won , and it just annoys me to see football played that way. And if you hadnt already noticed in my post i said that if you came across us in the playoffs you would beat us that way.
Go and have a lie down...you're all bitter and twisted at the moment.
So, what are we supposed to do? Roll over and let you win at home because you might have had a chance to go second? Don't work that way. We were the away team looking to consolidate a playoff place. You couldn't score at home. Tough shit and if the style wasn't to your liking-the point was to ours.
Don't come on here f**king whingeing 'cos we took a point off you and because you didn't like our tactics. Haven't you got a BristolCityWristSlashers.com site to do that?
If anyone fancies seeing the evidence, I have two or three mpegs of the away end in full voice - 4 or 5 meg each, I'm afraid - pm me if you'd like a copy (suggest non-broadband users don't bother, unless you can tell me how to compress them - and I'm not a techie!)
You were loud but not as loud as last time you came. Teams always say they outsing us when they dont , i think this is because they away end is cut off from the rest of the ground and it has a low roof shutting out any noise and enhancing the noise from the away fans. The atmosphere has improved since we were allowed back into part of the east end but after the plymuff game under 16's werent allowed in and the amount of tickets we got in that end were reduced because of some idiot kids climbing on the fence after we scored a late winner. Just for other fans point of view , dont you think we have too much segregation compared to other grounds?? for example cardiff and millwall dont even have as much as we do , your views would be appreciated.
Every team at the top will find visitng sides come and sit back. Whether you're Arsenal or Doncaster it's part of the game.
On Easter Monday Rushden came to Withdean and put everyone behind the ball. We even had a perfectly legitimate goal ruled out. 2 points dropped because they didn't want to play. Very frustrating but it highlights they lack of creativity Div 2 teams have to offer. I also wish we would play like that away more often. A few more points and we'd be safely in the playoffs now.
I don't think we were that defencive today anyway. We got back in numbers to defend as a team. As you always do. When we got men forward they did get support. In the first half our left back made many overlapping runs. Hardly the act of an ultra-defencive team.
It was just a typical, tight, end of season game when both sides didn't want to lose. If we'd commited a few men forward we may have got a goal but we didn't need to. Very happy with the point.
Our Bristol friend is in for severe disappointments ahead in life if he thinks teams don't play tactical football in Division 1 or higher leagues.
This is another really big day for McGhee and his clever use of the limited options in the squad.
We were always going to go back to the solidity of 4-4-2 today given that Bris's job was to throw the kitchen sink at us.
That always meant a recall for Jonah's workrate and fitness. But Reid has done well to displace OGH - I would expect the Aussie to stay in the team now providing he doesn't make any defensive howlers. Be good to see him stick away one of these goal-scoring chances he gets.
John Piercy, well, the most telling comment came in Dean White's Sports Argus interview last week, when asked by the Argus what made him happy in life, White replied: " A John Piercy tackle."
With goals more than tackles needed against Notts County, I wouldn't be suprised if he came in again for Jonah, despite his effective game today.
Let's hope Big Chris is OK.
Another huge day for the skipper who showed why he gets the vote of his fellow Div 2 professionals when it comes to MVP awards.
I don't think we were that defensive today, just more solid than we usually are away from home. Turkey's right, if we'd played like that in a few more games we'd certainly have reached the play-offs by now and would be challenging for automatic promotion.
But it's scarcely a sign of lack of ambition when we bring on Piercy for Jones. If we'd really wanted to shut up shop, we'd have brought Mayo or El Abd on (or even played three centre-backs from the start like Rushden).
No-one has mentioned the ref and his seeming reluctance to admit to the possibility of handball. Fair enough; the incidents when their guy lobbed Roberts after handling it and the Virgo (?) hand in the area looked accidental - and it was good to see a ref sticking to the letter of the law. But the Reid one wasn't, all hell would have broken loose if that had gone in.
