Necks...

Stinker this one, I reckon - a quiet suburban street (taken in 1907). Which one?

I wasn't arguing anything.

i was inferring from the picture shown that it wasn't Bear Road based on the shadow being cast from the left hand side of the picture. The wall may well be on the other side of the road at the top of Bear Road, but seeing as no houses are at the top of Bear Road the picture shown therefor meant that it couldn't be Bear Road which was my point.

Thought someone such as yourself would have been able to pick up on that.

P.S I already had said it was not Bear Road before TLO confirmed.

Your first response to the suggestion the road was bear road (which, yes, was before TLO confirmed):

The wall is on the wrong side of the road to be Bear Road

No mention of shadows, no mention of houses. Simply the wall was on the wrong side. By "argument" I meant your reasoning for your position, not a verbal fight.

That was the post I quoted and responded to.

As i have already said i was inferring, as to why it couldn't be Bear Road and that with the photo Sully put up, you could see why it couldn't be Bear Road.

If you really can't see that and want to carry on with this, then PM me, don't be a wally and carry on in here and drag TLO's decent thread down.

Can I lob one in. Do you know where this is? Don't expect you to know the name of the building.

This building was behind my first ever flat in Brighton. I thought it was charming and mt memories of it we as a huge buyilding, but it doesn't seem so huge here.

The word is 'implying'. Or better still, 'stating' if you're going on for the sake of clarity.

Aside from that, knock it off, you two. You're worse than me and... [well, pick one]

It's suddenly looking a lot more colourful!

Hey, you can't change pics half way through - that's CHEATING.

Hehe - right next to each other. I realised that I had uploaded the wrong house!! I don't think there is a printer behind it but a long time since I lived there.

Here's the original:

I apologise for appearing to have killed this thread.

In the hope of bringing it back to life, the to pictures above are:

(colour) New England Farm house. Originally the farm covered York Villas and York Grove and New England Road was named after it. Still there surrounded by Victorian properties as 26 York Villas. Believed to date from around 1820. New England Road was originally called Montpelier Road and the name changed when the area was developed. In those days the Old SHoreham Road was little more than a track.

(b&w picture) Grove Villa at the junction of New England Road and York Grove. Still there but heavily developed and converted into flats. The lamp post gives it away, as does the rendering on the corners of the building. It looks like the lovely soffits and facias have been boarded over.

Pas du tout.

It was the house I thought it was.

There was a printer for years called West Sussex Litho on the corner of York Villas. They printed (and in fact might still do) the Albion match programme. They also print (FoC, bless them) the REMF programmes.

I think they've moved now, but another printer has moved in.
