We should have scored more in the 1st half and you know that it gives teams more encouragement if it's only one goal during the game. We didn't play well 2nd half and saints grew in confidence. Still not lost at home but it was close. Second in the league . . . What's wrong with that.
Mostly agree with this. However, with Hinshlewood, Baleba and Veltman all out we have no one who can win the ball.

Last season we had a coach who needed wingers and they all got crocked or played in overseas tournaments. This season we need ball winners and all of ours were out today.

I still don’t know how Mitoma fluffed that first chance though.

Neither do I. Unlucky with hitting the post too but my word we got lucky with the VAR decision.

It looks like the 'we just have to turn up' attitude against bortom sides is back.
In fact it never left and looks like it will remain.
I was awake for the last 15mins or so.
Not inspiring, a 2 point cushion in 2nd place would have been nice.
Wont be there after today's games.

Well that was a massive damp squib. To be fair to Southampton, they looked better than their league position suggests and played some good stuff at times.

Not sure how Downes avoided being sent off when he committed three fouls after being booked (the last one looked a clear yellow). Compare Baleba on Sat... So maybe we can blame Attwell...

Didn't understand the subs - was Pedro injured? And Wieffer for O'Reily? Oh really?

Everyone is a bit glum so let’s look at this a different way.

We’re a third of the way through the season and we've lost twice, having played most of the badasses. Extrapolate that across an entire season, we lose six and finish on 65ish points, which is enough to be in the “fun stuff” zone.

Of course it’s not that simple but football isn’t linear. We played some of our best stuff against Liverpool and got nowt. Newcastle had us under the cosh and we took all three points.

We’re in the mix and it’s fun to be there.

Blimey! The wine certainly worked tonight.

Mentioned by me at HT, Lamptey and Estupinan‘s areas were a weak spot. Lamptey defensively was bloody awful, one on one’s so often he’s hopeless.

The other thing was a half hearted press from Rutter-Velbeck-Pedro, especially second half. It only works in packs. Once bypassed, they outnumbered us on the counter in the second half. On repeat.

So obvious to see all that in real time, even from the NS. A rare lack of action from FH in not addressing things early second half at right back and the overloaded centre midfield.

We’re our own worst enemy, don’t put chances away first half, a great ball in early doors second half, no one gambling far post. It’s gonna come back to bite you. Not the best day at the office. Still, we’re 2nd. 👏🏻 for now.

Agreed. Thought Veltman was rubbish at pressing tonight

Play a top 6 side, there's 5 contenders for MOM.

Play bottom 3 side, you can't find a contender.

Welbeck and Pedro's worst performances of the season.

The elephant in the room is how many times Archer got beyond Igor, including for the disallowed goal.
