Our two goals last week were from one touch, quick intricate passing in the build up.

What happened to that this week?

On the bright side though Mitoma is looking proper dangerous at the moment. Back to his very best.
Lamptey, apart from his cross for goal, was so negative, backwards, sideways..... really stifled progress down the right for most of the game,... Rutter tried his best first half, but I think gave up a bit in the 2nd.

I mean we are contenders on account of the fact that this is the worst the league has been since Leicester won the Prem.

Doesn’t mean we’ll achieve it, of course.
I just don’t see it, personally. In my opinion it is a process of progression. Changing mentalities. Europe was a huge step, but this club has never won any meaningful silverware. Without meaning to sound too managerial wanky I see our next “step” as winning a cup while firmly entrenched in the top half of the table every season. A league cup would do.

The squad, this club, these fans need the feeling of winning something to truly be able to go another step beyond. That’s a big reason why I was so gutted with our League Cup exit and place so much hope on the FA Cup.

Yep - this is what var made the decision on I think, and just about correct. I think the flick of the leg wasn’t really the issue. Whichever way you look at it though, it could easily have gone the other way.
It was reported on my stream that is was very much all about the flick of the leg.

Correct me if I'm wrong but VAR spent an age fannying around with line drawing hoping that the goal scorer was offside so they wouldn't have to make call. Surely having the balls to say the player who was clearly in an offside position and interfered with play would have taken a fraction of the time.

I get that, and I’m not disagreeing really. I just think this season is as good of a chance as we will have to break into the top 4. And I think that’s partly because many of the so called bigger sides just aren’t very good.

Saying that, we’ve just drawn at home to a really poor Saints side… so neither are we, clearly.

I’m not sure what to say, we probably gave it all in the first half… maybe too much… got a wee bit tired and lost momentum at a crucial time… we hit the post twice, came close a number of times… another night we win, another night we lose… never mind … life goes on and we’re not doing too badly really, you know… we’re 2nd… things could be worse.

Tonight felt a wee bit ‘after the Lord Mayors show…’ again 😂 … it would appear the local Mayor loves a show… 😂

They always start with the goal scorer and go backwards to look at other factors (offsides off the ball, fouls off the ball) - there was nothing dubious about the decision making process perhaps except how long it took.

I think it’s the wrong decision, but in terms of the process it was consistent - work backwards from the ball going into the net.

Yes - precisely. They could have said immediately that he was interfering with play. It took them next to no time after the lines showed the scorer was onside - so why didn't they just do it straight away?

Agree to a point but Pervis was worse. Southampton had far more joy down their right and even going forward Pervis did some terrible crosses

I agree, it’s there for the taking. I just don’t think we are quite ready to take it ourselves - yet. The direction is positive and a trophy is the ticket

Very frustrating and two points dropped. I wasn't overly confident before the game based on our track record of playing teams at the bottom. You dont win anything on paper. It's still a point, we move on!

Matt O'Riley

"Not great. Points dropped. We had a lot of chances, especially in the first half, but we weren't ruthless enough."

"Maybe a lack of intensity, a bit sloppy on the ball, bad decision making, it just wasn't really good enough."

"If you don't work hard enough you're never going to win."

"We tried to win but we weren't good enough."

"I feel good physically which is positive. I'd like to contribute more. It's nice to be back playing. I feel like I'm getting fitter every day."
I’d like O’Riley to be interviewed every match. I just get the impression you’ll always get a frank and honest answer from him and not some fluffed up cliches.
