The democratic and free EU
No, that was the UN, with a little help from NATO.

NATO was set up to protect Western Europe's external borders against the perceived Soviet threat.

The UN was set up with the aim of preventing another global conflict. It has no special mandate relating specifically to Western Europe's internal borders.

Only the European Coal and Steel Union - the EU's grandaddy - was set up to prevent Western Europe (more specifically France and Germany) from going at each other's throats yet again, by getting them to talk civilly to one another for the first time.So far, so good.

It was always going to be an issue. If the IOW was Spanish and Spain were breaking away from the EU I think we'd view it as a problem.

Are you suggesting Spain should have made this whole process as easy as possible for the UK?

Why do you say this DR?
it sounds like you've been swayed by project fear and all the Pro EU media hype , no one's denying that there will be a few teething problems there always is when you change procedures but if you think the EU is the holy grail for the UK you are wrong, the EU will be falling apart in the future it's not a democratic body and just wants to use it's power within to erode every members identity as a country, do you think every one in the EU is happy with their ideals?

The EU isn't the holy grail and who said it was prefect? But better to be in it and vote in sensible MEP's (not UKIP wasters that do nothing for us) that will give us a voice to make things better.

As for the anti-EU media you are right and its good you've picked up on this, we've had 3 decades of it in the UK. But at least Dacre has left the Mail and the Express has now changed hands.

The arse end of Hangleton
Funny how Peston says that - Remember how the UK reacted when Argentina took a little rock 8,000 miles away. Why wouldn't Spain be combative over something lay claim to?

Because they agreed it was ours via a treaty ?

the EU have bullied us from day one of the vote to leave, how are we going to change from within?, it's fall in line or else with this lot,the biggest problem has been remainers trying to get a Brexit deal that suits their remain ideals not what the country voted for, therefore it would have saved all this heart ache if we had a leaver leading the country out of the EU, but no, TM still wants that "close and special relationship" at any cost .

You say "not what the country voted far" you speak like the 99% of the UK voted leave, it wasn't even like the 70/30 when we went in. It was 52 / 48 and 2 out of 4 home nations, not a strong mandate for the hard Brexit.

Whilst I don't like her deal and I think its bad for Britain, it probably represents the closest to compromise. That said, I can't endorse it as it threatens the very existence of the UK and for once the DUP are right.

If you had a put a leaver in change we'd still be in the same place, they'd still had lost to Gina Miller, same parliament, same arithmetic

Because they agreed it was ours via a treaty ?

Exactly. If only The Honourable Member for The 18th Century himself was Prime Minister, as I'm sure Mr Rees-Mogg would very politely remind The Spanish Prime Minister, The Most Excellent Pedro Sanchez of The Kingdom of Spain, that in addition to Gibraltar at The Treaty of Utrecht, King Phillip V quite clearly also agreed that the Island of Menorca is also ours and Her Majesty's Government will not agreeing anything in regards to Gibraltar as it would be the greatest mistake and vassalage since The Duke of Manchester signed The Peace of Paris in 1783 and betrayed The Menorcans after The Kingdom of Spain had clearly breached Article X of The Treaty of Utrecht by illegally besieging His Majesty's Sovereign Territory of Menorca in 1781.

that's just more speculation on your behalf , the deals on the table it will be rejected , we will be leaving the EU on a no deal
