Brendan Rodgers to Liverpool

I reckon he'll (Poyet) give Brighton one more season - so long as he gets funding for new players. Why walk out on a job that's half finished into one that has over-achieved. I mean if Swansea do as well next year, then he's achieved very little, if they do worse he's failed.
I think if he was offered Liverpool he couldn't say no, whereas clubs with small budgets wouldn't float his boat. imho

Absolutely, top quality superb manager.

England have missed a trick. it was a real chance to employ someone like Rodgers who could hav helped revolutionise the national team and grass routes beyond all recognition.

he won't get a fair crack of the whip at Liverpool because a) Their fans are idiots b) Liverpool aren't a particularly like club so opposition fans and the media will be all over him like a rash.

Gus has said on numerous occasions he is in no rush to manage in the prem and would rather take us there, I really cant see him jumping ship without at least having another go at taking us there and I cant see him going to a relatively small prem club or one similar to ourselves, if and when he goes he will step up to larger club.
Swansea fans may think he's the best man for the Job but I really cant see Swansea tempting him away.

Brendan Rogers also said he wasn't going anywhere to Swansea fans.

Has this been confirmed yet or are we all wetting our pants over nothing?

I don't view Gus and his ambitions like that. For Gus, it's not about managing in the Premier League, it's about ending up at Chelsea or Spurs. Every move he makes will be geared towards that. I don't think Swansea v Brighton comes into it too much. Quite simply, if he gets a chance to manager in the Premier League at a club that he believes gives him the opportunity to succeed and show he's got what it takes at that level then he will be off, as that makes him more attractive to a club on the next rung of the ladder. Football is strange, there is no guarantee we'll go up next year or even in the next two, three or four years, and if we don't then you can guarantee there will come a point when the fans or Tony Bloom might even start to question him. If he goes to Swansea he is guaranteeing a chance to shine in that division, whereas with us it's all ifs and buts.

He's also risking taking them down and really struggling to get another Prem job for quite some time

One big positive for Gus, regarding the Swansea job, is that Rodgers has already built a squad of players who are schooled in 'his' way of playing - ball retention, build from the back, etc. At almost any other club, he'd have to start building from scratch, which makes immediate success very difficult. At Swansea the squad is ready for him to step in, and just tweak it, as he likes.

Also, the fans are used to the style, so he doesn't need to spend 18 months winning the crowd over, like he had to here.

I feel I'm almost talking him into it, so I'll stop now...

There are always risks, whichever club a manager goes to. Sadly I think Swansea is perfect for him. Be worth putting a couple of quid on it to soften the blow if it happens.

My view is that the next Swansea manager will have a hell of a job on to improve on last season under Rodgers. They also are restricted somewhat by having a 20k capacity at present. I suspect they may want to speak to Gus but I'd have been more worried about Villa tbh.

If Brendan Rodgers does go to Liverpool, and they start off badly in there first 5 games. Will they be calling for his head? Like they did with Hodgson?! Swansea and Villa are the only two jobs, I'm now seriously worried about Gus heading off to.

There are a lot of average/poor teams in the Premier League though. If you back yourself as a manager (and I think it's safe to say Gus certainly does) then you would fancy your chances of at least being able to finish in the top 9 of the 12 distinctly mediocre teams, which is all you have to do to avoid relegation. And there is always the chance of developing a nice style (although I'm not quite sure how you can improve on Swansea's), picking up some high-profile wins, making a bargain signing and getting yourself noticed by a big club. In fact, that's just what Rodgers has done.

Basically, what it comes down to is the big clubs won't touch Gus straight from Brighton unless we're doing well in the Premier League, which is still at least a couple of years away and by no means certain. The Premier League's second and third tier clubs give him the chance to jump a level without having to waste a season working for it.

I really think Gus appreciates what he currently has a Brighton and don't quite think he's as mercenary as you suggest in seeking the WHL or Stamford Bridge dugouts. He has everything a young manager could possibly want at the moment with a top chairman to boot. Having a big hand in designing the Youth Academy is right up his street as well. I just don't see him jumping ship for a club of similar size just because they are a few years ahead of us at the moment. That can change so quickly.

If Rodgers gets the Liverpool gig, it seems obvious that they will approach TB to interview Poyet. Given Poyet's policy of not standing in the players way when the chance of career advancement arises, I can't see us refusing the request.......whether Poyet wants to go there, only he can answer.

We'll see.

sad it is to say, but if Swansea offer it to Gus, he'll be gone. The idea he'd stay for the 'project' is day dreaming, especially as he knows next year the Championship be even harder. Managers, like players, live simply for the moment and that's why loyalty in football just does not exist. A well run and funded club, half decent chance of staying up next year, a reasonable squad of players playing his type of football and a window to showcase his management skills to other PL clubs, put that all together and he'll be gone in 60 seconds.......and in fairness as he is ambitious, cannot blame him for that. If it is offered and he takes, I just hope he leaves quickly and gracefully leaving positive memories, rather than drag it out to the detriment of Brighton.

I hope you're right, because outside of the top six or eight teams in this country I genuinely don't think there is a better club to be managing right now than BHAFC. I just think with Gus it IS all about Chelsea. The point about our budget somebody made in this thread is probably a good one. If Gus is really happy with how much money he has to spend this summer he will back himself to get us up, which probably means it really would have to be something "special" to tempt him away. But if he thinks we're going to stall in the large and competitive field that is the NPC, I think he'll take the guaranteed top-flight football.

Spot on, IMO.

And as I've said above, Swansea's ready-made-for-Gus squad makes them far more attractive than any of the other Prem also-rans, from Norwich to Wigan to West Brom to Villa.
