Bad news for us. Poyet would take it if offered , no doubt about that

Why would he? It is a better option for him but you have to factor in GP's ego in all of this. I believe he'll be wanting to say something like "I took a struggling League 1 side, saved them from relegation and within 3/4 years took them to the Premier League". I hope so any way.

So their history of employing the likes of Shankly, Paisley, Fagan, Dalglish and Evans when they were all unproven counts for nothing then? Rodgers is exactly the type of manager most of them would be happy with.

Not saying this is necessarily representative but this poll is from (one of) their fora:

Rafael Benitez 1541 (61.2%)
Andre Villas-Boas323 (12.8%)
Fabio Capello 33 (1.3%)
Roberto Martinez 43 (1.7%)
Frank Rijkaard 13 (0.5%)
Jurgen Klopp 223 (8.9%)
Didier Deschamps 9 (0.4%)
Luis Enrique 1 (0%)
Roberto Di Matteo 6 (0.2%)
Josep Guardiola 205 (8.1%)
Brendan Rodgers 40 (1.6%)
Jurgen Klinsmann 2 (0.1%)
Marcelo Bielsa 27 (1.1%)
Other 48 (1.9%)
Lucien Favre 2 (0.1%)

They were all part of the 'Anfield family' already though, so that would have afforded them a high degree of goodwill in the bank, before they started.

All untried during the most successful period in English football for any club at the time. Each appointment was a massive risk, regardless of coming through the ranks at Anfield.

That's utter nonsense. Promoting from within, with succession planning in place, was the LEAST risk option, and one that served them very well for 20 years.

Rodgers is exactly the type of manager most of them would be happy with. Of course all football fans want big names appointed but contrary to popular belief on here-Liverpool supporters are far from stupid. They may still be living in the past but stupid they ain't. They know that there is a massive rebuilding job in front of anybody who takes the position and as I mentioned elsewhere, they do not have a history of driving out managers in the same way that, say The Albion fans have done in recent times.

All very fair points but Rodgers is an outsider and as such is much more vulnerable than any of those mentioned.Recent history counts for much more andin that scousers are as stupid as all of us when it comes to wanting what they want. As stupid; as blind; and generally much more self-important......... not that they don't have some right to be but painting them as somehow super-intelligent because they have history just doesn't do it for me. Sorry.

I think that rather proves my point. Thank you

Interesting to see our list if and when Gus goes - I'm with the two scousers who wanted Klinsmann

Love this tweet from Guillem Balague who is an expert commentator on European football and knows a great deal more than any of us........................

Swansea has prepared reports on managers from La Liga in case Rodgers was leaving

Gus has always said he would not leave unless it was a very big club. Premier League or no Premier League, we are a bigger club than Swansea. If Poyet ends up going there it's a total cop out.

I think it basically proves sod all. An internet football forum is hardly conclusive is it?

statistically the sample seems large enough to be valid but of course you can choose to look at it or not. Rodgers will not be universally accepted on merseyside and a significant number of fans who will view him as being not good enough for their clubwill be waiting for it to go wrong so they can be proved right

Yeah but gus loves the prem so if anyone would actually approach us he would go,he's not loyal like most people so no big deal in my book.I still don't think he's good enough yet anyway,he's got it cushty here with little pressure:)

I reckon he'll (Poyet) give Brighton one more season - so long as he gets funding for new players. Why walk out on a job that's half finished into one that has over-achieved. I mean if Swansea do as well next year, then he's achieved very little, if they do worse he's failed.
I think if he was offered Liverpool he couldn't say no, whereas clubs with small budgets wouldn't float his boat. imho
I'm confused mmmmmm, since when has gus been the hottest property in English football?why is gus to good for us?what has he achieved?not one club has approached him bar maybe relegated wolves, that tells you that he's not that good yet end of.

He should be grateful to be here and he's not to good for us that's a fact.
