I hope you're right, because outside of the top six or eight teams in this country I genuinely don't think there is a better club to be managing right now than BHAFC. I just think with Gus it IS all about Chelsea. The point about our budget somebody made in this thread is probably a good one. If Gus is really happy with how much money he has to spend this summer he will back himself to get us up, which probably means it really would have to be something "special" to tempt him away. But if he thinks we're going to stall in the large and competitive field that is the NPC, I think he'll take the guaranteed top-flight football.

If things have stagnated here in a year or two's time then maybe, but everything since he joined has been upward in momentum which is what Gus has said all along is what would keep him here. A lot of people seem quick to paint Gus as a liar and not really caring for the club, but I for one give him the full backing that when he says it will take a special offer to lure him away at the moment, then that's what it will take. Special could be somewhat of a grey area but I don't class anything outside the Top 6 as particularly special at the moment.

Saying that, the Swansea chairman Huw Jenkinson is very much in the mould of Tony Bloom and so that aspect would add to the appeal of Swansea for Gus I'm sure. He's just spent nearly £7m in getting Siguardson in for Rodgers a day or two ago, which makes the whole Rodgers' to Liverpool think even more baffling for me.

I Like Rodgers. Can't help feeling that Liverpool fans will crucify him although I recognise why he might be keen to test himself there and in a way he can afford to fail because he can simply blame unrealistic expectations. Maybe not win:win for him but potentially win:no lose. In all truth the bigger surprise is that Liverpool's owners didn't go harder for a big name or an established overseas coach - they seem totally out of tune with their fans' vision for the club.

Swansea will surely look at Gus because of his playing style if nothing else. If offered I think we might struggle to keep him but in the end I think he is not at the very front of their probable shopping list. Can't see them bringing Martinez back even if he would go and Curbishley may have been just too long out of the game but maybe a punt on Holloway...........?

it was breaking news on SSN, Rodgers is talking to Liverpool right now (1430pm).

Gus will take Swansea if offered imho, Brighton is a stepping stone towards the top four, as will be Poyets next move. He will see Rodgers has had a modicum of success at Swansea and is now getting a big job offer.

Poyet and his advisors will notice that, plus he will get himself primetime TV every week as manager in the PL.

Rodgers said he didn't want to be considered and now he's at Anfield. Poyet says it would have to be "something very special", which will be turned into..... the chance to come to a club that plays with the same passing ethos that I believe in, with the quality of players they have is a very special opportunity..

Its all PR, they all say what they want us to hear, the only true constants are fans, and the occasional fan/director like Bloom.

I don't think Poyet is loyal, he touts himself constantly, he is just like every ambitious football employee, trying to plot his course to the top. If he sees it as giving him a quicker/better opportunity to get there, he'll be off.

Swansea get 5 mill compo for Rodgers and pay 2 mill for Poyet....... simple. but don't worry, TB holds the keys to our success not Gus.

He's also risking taking them down and really struggling to get another Prem job for quite some time
Agree, and probably the best he can do there is do as well as they have this season. As good as they've been this season, like a lot of clubs their results were better in the first half of the season than the second. In terms of progressing the club he has more room for improvement here. I suppose it's debatable which is more attractive on a CV, since both Martinez and Rodgers are in demand.

Also it would mean uprooting his family, you can say he applied for that job before so was wiling to do that, but that's when he was trying to break into management at all. I think it has to be considered as he's always been in the south east of England.

"Liverpool supporter here.

Unlucky mates, but it is the circle of life. The strong will eat the weak and feast on their young. We are the strong, you are the weak. It is how it is, was, and always will be.

You should look at today as a learning experience. Not just about football, but about the universe as a whole.

I expect we shall also feast on Siguurdson and Joe Allen - but you lads need to keep your heads up and look at the bigger picture. You will then feast on a smaller club's players. If they become good enough, eventually in a year or two they will be taken from you and the cycle will repeat.

As Bill Shankly said 'it really is a very simple game'."

Arrogant and quite frankly amusing outlook from a Liverpool fan seeing though they were miles away from the top 4 and a mere 5 points separated them with Swansea at the end of the season...

he won't get a fair crack of the whip at Liverpool because a) Their fans are idiots b) Liverpool aren't a particularly like club so opposition fans and the media will be all over him like a rash.

This shows that you have little or no knowledge of Liverpool-the club or its supporters. Unlike The Albion, Liverpool fans do not usually turn on their own. The exception being RH who looked like he was in danger of relegating the club. Liverpool fans do not have a history of driving out managers unless you know otherwise?

All Liverpool fans have been talking about is getting a big name manager. He will be hounded out if he starts badly, as Hodgson was. They may not have a history of behaving like that, but it looks like the times are - a - changing...

I was listening to talksport last Friday afternoon in the car and a Liverpool fan phoned in regarding the vacant managers job, he was adamant that the only reason Martinez and Rogers had been mentioned was because they were small names and it will look better when they announce the big name replacement.

I can't remember who was presenting but he actually called him outrageous, arrogant and should remember where Liverpool are now and not live in the past.

So their history of employing the likes of Shankly, Paisley, Fagan, Dalglish and Evans when they were all unproven counts for nothing then? Rodgers is exactly the type of manager most of them would be happy with. Of course all football fans want big names appointed but contrary to popular belief on here-Liverpool supporters are far from stupid. They may still be living in the past but stupid they ain't. They know that there is a massive rebuilding job in front of anybody who takes the position and as I mentioned elsewhere, they do not have a history of driving out managers in the same way that, say The Albion fans have done in recent times.

According to those odds, Stan James are offering 33/1 on Pep Guardiola becomming the next Swansea boss. Now I'm not a betting man but if I was I'd want a damn site more than 33 times my stake if that were to happen.

As for Gus I think there is a good chance he would take the swans job if offered. As HK stated in an earlier post there is a decent ready made squad for him assembled in wales.

They were all part of the 'Anfield family' already though, so that would have afforded them a high degree of goodwill in the bank, before they started.

they were really impressed with Poyet and he was only just pipped to post before, when he had no experience, now he does;
