bit difficult to claim that as during the american civil war we were on the side of,and arming the confederate, slave using, south as opposed to the yankie north who had abolished slavery.

We oblished slavery befour then.

Look at it politcaly. Would it be in the best interest of the British Empier for there to be civil war in america at that time?

sorry but it had nothing to do with slavery. More to do with trying to take control of North America or at least protecting Cannada which the USA wanted to Annex.

U.S. President Abraham Lincoln proclaims emancipation of slaves with effect from January 1, 1863

Great Britain and Spain sign a treaty prohibiting the slave trade 1819

just to be fair dear mr BNP

can we bring back from the colonies all the decendants of british settlers, all the ex-pats who have left for warmer climes or higher wages/better standard of living.those tax dodgers and hippy's,the failed comedians who left the country in protest at a labour government ,fraudsters, gangsters, bank robbers and time share touts, unpleasant brits holidaying abroad and all the rest i have missed out.

lets see how many millions that adds to the population.and the effect on the labour market, health service and housing.

I'm more worried if the same rules are applied in the USA, and we end up with 150 million fat twats being repatriated here by the native Americans.

So. The US civil war was from 1861–1865, so slavery was enforsable banned in 1865.

The Slave Trade Act was an Act of Parliament of the Parliament of the United Kingdom passed on 25 March 1807. The act abolished the slave trade in the British Empire, but not slavery itself; that had to wait for the Slavery Abolition Act 1833. We were still 32 years ahead of them.

But thanks for correcting me me.

read it

The different states had varying policies concerning slavery. In some areas of the country where religious groups such as the Quakers played a prominent role in political life, there was strong opposition to having slaves. Rhode Island abolished slavery in 1774 and was soon followed by Vermont (1777), Pennsylvania (1780), Massachusetts (1781), New Hampshire (1783), Connecticut (1784), New York (1799) and New Jersey (1804). The new states of Maine, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana, Kansas, Oregon, California and Illinois also did not have slaves. The importation of slaves from other countries was banned in 1808. However, the selling of slaves within the southern states continued.

Interesting did not know that. But i read on. If you look under 'Fugitive Slave Law', you see a law about federal marshals being fined for not catching escaped slaves. US federal law and US state law are two different things. The states banned slavery but the country did not. So a federal Officer could still arrest somebody in New York in 1850 for hiding slaves.

Given that some people here attach so much importance to the place of birth, does that mean that because Jesus Christ was born in a stable, he is technically a horse?

This thread has got me wondering, has this board got no moderation at all?

Very little, and that's what makes this place so good. Why censor fools when you can show some love and give them plenty of rope to hang themselves with ?.[/[FONT]

You can even type in whatever colour you please and get away with it , even though some people might take offence

:lolol: no. it means he was infact an Arab! Shock Horror.

If he existed, he was Jewish. The Arab armies only captured Jerusalem in 638 CE.

I think some of the BNP may have retired to check their parentage.

They may be some time...............

How long will it take them to recover from the shock that pretty much everyone in England is descended from immigrants, recent or distant, whereas the original English were driven out and largely ended up residing in Wales...apparently!
