Its okay, I'll find people who are less xenophobic and more open to at least good ideas wherever they come from.

Not everyone is like you.
If only there was somewhere easily accessible by train from Brighton where your ideas will be more appreciated...

I thought, hang on this blokes fishing!

I then realised you're just culturally unaware of the area where the object of your affection is currently coaching. We don't mingle well with others down here on the south coast, stop trying to introduce socialism. If you want a sense of belonging, go and support one of the multitude of community projects up north

Reading through this thread again with fresh eyes as I slept early and now can't sleep.
Swansman - Your views are that of a slightly " Intelligentsia " base camp. However sometimes the most interesting and intelligent people lack common sense.

Your ideas are all very nice and have value in society. Well I think so anyhow but they do not lend themselves to a football fan base and your bit on the " Ultras " is off the wall and Draconian.

That doesn't mean that like others on here I would dismiss them out of hand.

Your ideas ( well some of them ) would
be helpful and work well if you has a job in Social Services in rehabilitation of people who has perhaps been left behind by society. I would perhaps have refrained from the " ****ing each other bit " as well. I think people like to choose their own sexual partners based on physical attraction.

So in short . Your ideas to be aren't 100% abhorrent. You just used the wrong vehicle / forum to "road test them"

On top of that you have stated that when GP is gone. You will be too.

People on here know that I am friends with CH and support him 100% - I would be willing to bet that GP won't last as long at Brighton as Chris did.

When CH followed Paul Lambert into Norwich he was on a hiding to nothing because Lambert had taken them up two divisions and kept them in the PL.

By that time fans expectations were too high.

Sadly for GP . He has followed CH. The next rung of the ladder for Brighton is so difficult to reach. He won't achieve it I don't think. Yes play the players Dan Ashworth tells you to play. And play the type of football Dan Ashworth brought you in to play. But will it achieve what fans now want. I don't think it will. Look at what Man United did to Man City today And Brighton don't have half the talent that Man City have - So GP will be expendable because he is the one who will be held accountable for the Actons of DA and he won't last 5 years

If he adopts a pragmatic approach now he should be able to stay up this year.

Not sure about your Christmas deadline.

I don't think his tactics will keep us up. I'm not impressed with them. This was going back to the Man City game in Aug.

Speak to many BHA outside of NSC and they are not happy with GP. Just like Brexit. Don't ask on here as it's not a true reflection of what people are thinking.

For reasons I can’t really explain, the word “knob” springs to mind. Followed by “banker”. Very odd.

Hang on, your now accusing some of us of being xenophobic....

There is so much wrong with your accusation, proving you know nothing about, our club, our city, our trials and tribulations. Further more you are probably not interested or care, because that was your reply to someone trying to tell you about our history & area.

Your a Palarse troll, or simply naive..

Great post, gave me a lot of great insight generally not easily obtained since a lot of this is probably obvious if you are from/living in the area.

It seems there is some huge challenges indeed. If the club is going to develop/keep its fan culture, it seems to me that a) connecting these groups with different attitudes/backgrounds/belongings and find common ground and b) make people who move to Brighton engaged in the club.

Sorry about repeating the supporter club-hedonism but I think it would be a good way in creating connection or at least non-"competitiveness" between different fractions of supporters and end up in some "we like banners and singing, maybe a pierce of confetti, but we dont like smoke bombs" middleground". You dont want to be like Crystal Palace but - genuine question - do you really think a supporter club of Brighton fans would be like a supporter club of CP fans?

It also creates a forum where new Brightoners can get connected to the club. Isnt there some science that says "you can get emotionally connected to what you hear, more connected to what you see and most to what you do"? Imagine being new in town, a huge football fan and having somewhere to go and obviously be a part of it rather than "just" watching it. And the fact that you meet people: when I go to study in Brighton this fall I will probably feel pretty ****ing weird and lonely at the AMEX, but if I had meet some people before or in between the first few games, it would be much easier.

Even if most of you are from or living in the surroundings rather than in the city itself, most likely there are a few thousand bored bearded or non-bearded teens and young adults who need Brighton but are yet to find out. Attempting to convert them into fanatics would, from what I've heard (and please give me more cause I suck info like Potter suck teeth) be positive in the long run. People are generally shit at making their new homes homes, they need to be shown or dragged into the beauty of a club (and city).

I could imagine some unspoken of fears about how "new" people could change things in a negative manner but if done correctly and sensibly you should be able to attract the right kind of people and indoctrinate them (us) to certain extent. Could probably be great funfor you bit older generations with some fresh blood.

I do eventually become some type of administrator or initiator of some type of initiative like this. If I move to study in Brighton (very likely) I hope to engage myself in the club and in the city as I've done any time Ive moved. Why: its good and its fun. I'm a writer/blogger, all of that shit you have enough of, but Im also type of guy who wont stop banging the council door until they give me a basement to arrange banner workshops in.

You need to help me though if its gonna be any good, I dont want to be some leader - just arranger - and I hope it could be a pretty flat organisation. And if anything dominated by long time, engaged fans.

I think you’d like it more in Portsmouth, any chance you could study there?

Interesting. Not the bit about the OP but the bit about Potter and DA. It’s how I’ve seen it, though with no inside knowledge at all, just an opinion based on that quote (and I may be paraphrasing here) “my job is to ensure the manager keeps his job as long as possible”. The words of a snake IMO.

For me our issue is not the atmosphere in the ground but the atmosphere in the boardroom and training ground.

Sorry, it’s not intelligentsia, it’s too much coffee and whatnot in the hippy commune he was brought up in that has given him a utopian view on life!

Great idea if you ask me. Unfortunately your largely trying to educate a bunch of middle aged, arm chair managers who all want to moan constantly

Maybe you are right, as middle aged people like myself ( I'm not an arm chair manager BTW ) are not into the Ultras thing.
I'm quite happy meeting up with various friends and family in a local pub before a Saturday home match, plenty of other smaller groups do this before matches.

If you think it's a great idea can you point the OP in the direction of fans of your age, please

Then they can meet up, make some banners and the quote to the OP, engage in sexual intercourse amongst themselves[emoji23]

Weirdest ever thread on NSC. Can't make out if Swansman is having a laugh or just plain barking.

Either way, I hope never to meet him.

So a guy comes on here and suggests some decent ideas for improving the atmosphere and people jump on him, with some pretty horrible stuff. No doubt the guy has thick enough skin but a bunch of you guys are embarrassing to the club. Fans united? Seems a lot of you have forgotten it was that spirit which saved the club, although seemingly that’s gone now

To be honest, after the mental email to Barber thread - I wrote off Swansman as being a bit of a parody of reality along the crodonilson lines.

But he's not - he's just a bloke. His user title is Sensible Madman, I think that's wonderfully apt. There's definitely an element of people judging his posts by his username now, rather than their genuine merits. To a certain extent that's because he is responsible for some of the strangest postings I can think of on this forum (which REALLY is saying something!) and I don't neccessarily want to meet up with other Brighton fans for a song and an orgy in a basement, but his general idea of bringing people together over a common interest isn't without merit.

I wonder how many people go to the games alone, as I did for 20 years? How many would genuinely benefit from the type of organisation he's suggesting? It's not a bad idea, it's just coming from a source that people have decided they're not interested in hearing from. A broken clock is right twice a day and if you have enough ideas you're eventually going to stumble upon a good one. Don't write off the guy just because of previous bizarre suggestions/behaviour.

Finally - everyone on this forum has one thing in common, we feel a compelling need to post on an internet forum. Whether that's to get our opinions expressed and heard, for a bit of virtual company or anything else - be nice to each other. We recently lost one of the absolute pillars of this forum and there were plenty of people expressing regret at how they'd treated him while he was posting. Be nice to each other, whether you agree or not - we're all people.
