I hate all this real ales shit. I was part of the first generation of alco-pop kids. Didn't really drink them and although now I prefer a late night in a decent pub with decent music I'm still a Wife Beater/Kroney/Fosters kind of a man.

The New Inn at Hadlow Down brings back some happy memories. Shame that Gerald and Aunty Kitty must have long died but I do hope the place hasn't been cleaned up.

I also feel a special mention should be given to Warnham, (nr Horsham).
Traditional Sussex village with only 2 pubs, but both are top notch.
Instead of the more customary 1 nice pub & the others being rough as old boots. (which isn't neccesarily a bad thing)

Three Moles is great, but the Blue Ship at the Haven is spot on too, and is a CAMRA Heritage Pub.

As for the Riser at Nutbourne, superb beer and superb home made burgers. The Five Bells at West Chiltington, definately the best real ale around here, and a fine pub to boot.. .:drink: :drink:

As for the Bar at the Blue Ship it's MASSIVE well actually it hasnt got one its just got a serving hatch but the beer there is completely shit!

The George and Dragon at Dragons Green much get a mention as its one of the cosiest pubs ive ever been in!

White Horse at Maplehurst to which i ventured into last week has a very nice local cider called JB's  to which i havent seen anywhere else other than in this pub!!!

Not forgetting its The Red Lion beer festival next weekend in Shoreham :drink: :drink:

took 5 minutes to explain what a light and bitter was to to the spotty faced pre-pubescent bar boy, only to be told they don't serve light ales and he's never heard of such a drink.
Light & bitter? Light AND bitter? Why bother? Light ale = bottled bitter. Hence.... Light & bitter = fizzy bitter + draught bitter. No wonder pubs stopped selling that one! [See also Brown & mild....]

The one in on the T junction can't remember the name of it (maybe LB or Roz can help). Quite enjoyable when I go in there once a year.

The Old Oak in Arlington
Ram Inn, Firle
Golden Galleon, Exceat
The Old Plough, Seaford.

Take your pick.

I can't believe there is a better pub in Sussex than the Griffin Inn in Fletching.

Absolutely , no question about it .
Always head straight there for lunch the day after arriving back in the U.K.
The Star Inn at Old Heathfield is bloody good too .

I was at a golden wedding do in London a couple of weeks ago and nearly every bloke in the place was drinking light and bitter. It was like stepping back into a time-warp....it was even weirder when the jellied eels came out.

Back to Sussex pubs: surely any Harveys pub is going to fit the bill. I always like going to the John Harvey Tavern in Lewes but the Trevor Arms and the Laughing Fish at Isfield were always good. I'm glad the Gribble has been mentioned, I'm aiming on cycling there in a couple of weeks, bloke at work recommended it, sounds a nice place to go after a nice ride.

Without a shadow of a doubt, the Tiger at East Dean. Get's a bit touristy in Summer but for its sheer 'Slaughtered Lamb-esque' qualities, it deserves a mention.

Many happy student days and nights spent/wasted in there.

So you think bottled beer tastes the same as draught, if so why do people drink 1/2 pint bottles of Stella at £3 a time instead of draught at £3 a pint. When you reclaim your tastebuds from a night out on lager, kebabs or curry house, try some old traditional beer, you may be surprised and then realise why British beer is unique in the world and has been around longer then any other.

The Half Moon at Northchapel (yes thats it the one with the red tractor outside)
is also a good all round boozer.

Not sure if it still has the live Music on a Monday night it even has Gary Brooker of Procol Harum as a customer who has been known to put his beer down and join in for a few songs!!

Beer,music and food.

Cracking village pub.
