In a cave
U2 (various gigs from 1984 to a couple of years ago)
Queen at Knebworth (turned out to be last gig in the UK - biggest Gig ever in the UK at that time - supported by Big Country and Status Quo)
Springsteen (various gigs - going to the Emirates tonight and tomorrow)
REM a few times, best was at Brixton Academy as a warm up for Glastonbury
Levellers
Saw Doctors
Arcade Fire
Bowie at Glastonbury
Marillion at the Marquee club in London

I could go on and on, probably best ever Gig was U2 at the NEC in Birmingham in 1985/6 (cant remember which year). Also seeing REM supporting U2 at Milton Keynes Bowl in 1985? was also pretty good (plus the Ramones and Billy Bragg)

Worst was Oasis at the Brighton Centre when they were in true arrogant wan*er mode.

Led Zeppelin - Toby Jug, Tolworth 1969
Derek and the Dominoes - Marquee Club 1970
Deep Purple, Rolling Stones, Edgar Broughton Band, Pink Floyd - Big Apple Club, Brighton 1970/1
Bob Marley and the Wailers - Leicester Poly 1973
Family - Leicester 1973 (their final gig)
Bob Kerr's Whoopee Band - Half Moon, Putney 1977-80
Eric Clapton + AN Others - Cranleigh Village Hall 1997(ish)

They're my pick (to probably very little surprise from those who know me). They were absolutely fantastic live in 2006, 2 hours + of great entertainment and stadium rock at it's very best. Can't wait to see them again on June 11th.

Honourable mention to country singers Kenny Chesney and Pat Green, who I saw at MSG in New York last year, and who are very good live performers.

I also hope to add REM to my list after I see them in Cardiff in August.

Likewise no surprise to anyone who knows me Bon Jovi by a country mile. Roll on tomorrow week - can't wait.

Eagles

and talking of country I would have to add Kenny Rogers and Johnny Cash on 4 occasions.

2,for me. Graham Parker and the Rumour. In Brighton in the 80,s. AND a certain Mr Springsteen. 4 times.

Off to see Springsteen at the Emirates tonight. First saw him at Brighton Centre in 1981 - probably the best ever for me. Followed by Jackson Browne solo and acoustic at the Theatre Royal Dury Lane.

Really sorry to have missed that. Have only heard one song so far - Frankie's Gun on an Uncut compilation - and, being a big fan of The Band, I was instantly smitten. Are they playing any other UK dates?

I saw U2 7 times between 1980-85 - the 7th time and last being that MK Bowl show - and watched their trajectory from eager young support band, through great headlining act to uber-smug "look at us aren't we brilliant" megastars, and in my experience the absolute pinnacle of their career occurred at the Lyceum Ballroom on Feb 1st 1981.

It was their first ever major headlining gig in London, and you could sense their excitement at playing for the first time in front of 2,600 people who had actually paid to see THEM. You could see the look of "f***ing hell, this is brilliant, we've actually made it!" on Bono's face, and the fun they were having on stage created an incredible buzz and cracking atmosphere that I've never felt before or since (except at Gang of Four gigs, see above). Although they were always good live, they never did, and could never, recreate that special one-off vibe ever again.

REM at MK were good, but it was spoiled by all the people chucking plastic bottles of piss at them. Did you go to their shows at the Hammersmith Palais in October 85? The same set, but much, much better gigs.

Nestling in green nowhere
Glastonbury 2002 I think - Groove Armada came on around dusk time and i'd just worked my way through a big fat spliff. When Superstylin kicked in it was one of those moments you just never forget.....

Similar experience at Glasto, dusk, hot air balloon going up over the Pyramid Chong sized spliff and the Levellers and their didgereedoo doing "This Garden"

magic.

Other mentions for Motorhead, Iron Maiden, Midnight Oil at the forum, Siscor Sisters...ah, good times.

I remember (ish) the first time I saw The Prodigy at The Poenix Festival in '96. Absolutely blew me away (even if I was on substances). They proceeded David Bowie on the 1st night & I wasn't expecting too much from The Thin White Duke tbh, but he was every bit as good as The Prodj were! Also had the privilage of copping Massive Attack on the last day & it was akin to a religious experience (or something)!! Oh happy times :smokin:

they're heading back to the states now:(

the album is definitely a corker though, over 65 minutes and no filler (a rarity nowadays).

Only one mention for The Jam? Surely one of the great live bands (although a bit po-faced). And an honourable mention for Daddy Yum Yum at the Basement or somewhere like that, which I'd completely forgotten about until now.
