I find AFL shite frankly, Melbourne types with a no brain no pain mentality, running round in tight shorts hugging each other...don't believe anything Tyrone says.....

Anyhow...I'm all up for a friendly rivalry with the English. Its fantastic that we came from here and obviously have learnt a few things ;-) aside from the fact we spend our lives playing sport as the weather is so condusive...

What I don't agree with is people who feel it appropriate to take it that one step too far...Words like C*nt which have been levelled on here, convict gets reeled out often as does "you're English anyhow"...its like childish racism and frankly all it is is jealousy. Whats most disspointing on here is that one of Britains finest coppers who posts on here finds it acceptable to roll out this form of childish vilification, really is very dissapointing.

Go figure...

We call you the 'Convicts' you call us the 'Poms'. Racism? The word racism is handed about like cookies ffs.:lol:

Basic rules - using your hands is easier than using your feet. Kicking an egg into a MASSIVE gap isnt an argument either.

 That bit made me laugh! I always think that when I see it on tv. I don't really get AFL but there again I haven't been brought up on it. The players are superb athletes regardless of any arguments about skill sets. Most people I chat to here (Queensland so hardly a AFL hotbed although Brisbane Lions are ok) say that you need to see AFL live to appreciate it.

My impression is that yes the press do go underground when they lose (when New Zealand won the Rugby League WC last year v Australia it was hardly mentioned although the build up to it was HUGE) but people take a defeat in their stride and move on.

I don't imagine it matters too much where you come from when you are getting shot. But for what it is worth ANZAC day is a big across the community thing here and I found the respect shown to those died in battle very moving.

INteresting debate. Not sure how relevant it is......but to be fair Australians, Kiwis etc are surely just backward colonials who are bound to excel in running round a sand pit / mudpatch chasing a ball wearing tramps cast offs?

Just a thought like.

:laugh::lol::laugh::wink::laugh::clap2::wave::wozza:

i would say you had just sent this thread into the gold category...stunning..!!

And you represent the Sydney view?

The view that is so out of whack with the rest of Australia it's not funny?

I think you'll find rugby league is the bastion of the no brainers, steroid freaks with no necks.

Rugby League is the shitest football code in Oz and thats starting from the top and the fools who run it.

I agree, it's not racist at all, it's just playful banter.

The only types who consider it racist are the left wing wankers.

Most people ( a very small % like .02% of todays population) who are descended from convicts are actually proud of it and dont take it as an insult.

Did you ever tell us what was so skillful about kicking a ball into a MASSIVE space, Mr B?

Go and kick an AFL ball 50 metres straight.

After your 40th or 50th attempt to do without success perhaps then you'd have an a better appreciation of the difficulty of kicking the ball, let alone putting it through the goals.

Then try and do it while you are running at full speed and someone is about to tackle you.

The majority of time the ball in Soccer is stationary or rolling in front of the player. In AFL the player has to drop the ball onto his foot from a distance. This means there's more chance of the ball not being kicked correctly if it's not done precisely.

Utterly delusional. Any footballer with a modicum of skill would be able to do that no worries. I wonder if a meat head AFL oaf could pick a semi-long range pass out with a football? I doubt it.

AFL players arent meatheads.

You're thinking of Rugby.

AFL players regularly pass 40-50 metres and hit moving targets on the chest.

So yes, they could quite easily do what you have asked.

Here's a youtube of an aborginal player who plays for Port Adelaide showing off his kicking skills.

Fair enough if you dont like AFL, but this kid is a freak with the football.

There will always be an exception to the rule.

He's not.

Motlop isn't in the top 100 players in the league.

I wouldn't know.

Ronaldinho or Messi could do that with their eyes closed with enough practice. I bet he couldn't skin four defenders and chip football over a keeper with all the practice in the world.
