I wouldn't know.

Ronaldinho or Messi could do that with their eyes closed with enough practice. I bet he couldn't skin four defenders and chip football over a keeper with all the practice in the world.

They are the two best soccer players in the world.

I'm sure/I'd hope they could do that with a soccer ball, with a AFL ball yes it would take a bit of practce..

He evades defenders every week when he plays to kick his goals. And they are actually allowed to wrap him up and tackle him or bump him over.

So yes he skins defenders quite often during a game.

You sure you've ever watched a game?

You don't seem to have a concept of what goes on during a game of AFL and the mechanics involved.

Blimey, all I did was post a newspaper article about the cricket, because I found it mildly amusing reading the reaction to the game. Our papers are just as bad when we lose, what's the big deal.

Don't recall saying anything about convicts whatsoever

He evades and skins defenders whilst CARRYING the ball, not keeping it under control with his feet. There is a STRATOSPHERE if difference. Yes, I have watched plenty of it and I know sport and skill when I see it. Your continued refusal to accept the worlds of difference in terms of skill between the two sports makes you look stupid. Very stupid.

With enough practice, Jimmy Bullard could do that, and he isn't in the top 100 players in the world.Although from watching a few vids of the bloke in question, every commenttor has called him either brilliant or a genius - big words for a player not in the 100 best... He wouldn't be capable of scoring some of the goals Jimmy Bullard has though...

:

They're not though. When we lose, we wank ourselves stupid about how good the Aussies are. We don't write articles claiming Andrew Symonds is really a Brummie.

So?

He can also be tackled and be slammed into the ground while carrying the ball.

Messi can run at defenders knowing if they kick him or bump him he'll either get a penalty or a foul agaonst the defender.

So yes there' is a diference. Messi is protected more by the rules and the official.

You commenting on a sport you've never played makes you look stupid.

At least i've played both to offer a comparison.

How do you know he couldnt?

He's proven he can do it with a ball shaped to make kicking such goals more difficult.

Your assumptions are AFL players cant do what Soccer players can do, butSoccer players can do what AFL players can.

Strawman argument.

Strawman - no. An educated sportsman's hunch? Yes. I've got nothing against AFL and you are a massive fan of it. There's the difference.

With regards to not playing it, I have played enough egged shaped sports involving my hands to county standard to apply a decent level of understanding to AFL on TV.

I'm a massive fan of both AFL and Soccer.

Both offer enjoyable viweing and playing opportunities.

There's understanding it, then there's appreciating it.

I understand Gridiron, but I probably don't appreciate what goes into a game by the players.

If I did then i'd probably watch it a hell of alot more than I do.

As a big fan of both code i have to agree with Tyrone. The skills used in each game are quite quite different so to assume that a soccer player could do what an AFL player can do and not the other way around is really a moot point.

it has taken me a long time to learn how to kick an AFL ball and it is a very tricky skill even to get the basics.

I really think that if you can't see the skill in AFL then your are not watching carefully or you don't understand what is happening. The positional intelligence and ability to read the game of players like Ablett, Judd and Hird is not obvious as when you watch a game live.

For the record Rugby League is the least skilful pile of crap football there is

....apart from AFL.

Try telling that to Benji Marshall, Jarrod Hayne and Kevin Locke.

You have basically just done what you have been accusing everyone else of doing and slagged off a sport (League) because you don't like it.

AFL is a good one off spectacle that everyone must see ONCE, in my opinion. The vast majority of people don't understand AFL, and can't be arsed to because 99% of other sports including tiddle-winks are more interesting. You stance on League is not doubt tainted by the fact you local team have just been done for the one of the biggest episodes of BLATANT CHEATING in sporting history AND HAVE THE FCUKING NERVE TO LAUNCH AN APPEAL!!

Melbourne really is a funny place, I'm glad my stint at the Melbourne Uni School of Business was short one and I could get out quick.

I'm not sure why people are comparing footballers & AFL players... there completely different sports. It's like comparing Ronnie O'Sullivan & Phil Taylor. What's the point.

Anyone who thinks there's no skill in AFL is an utter dumbass though.

Melbourne really is a funny place, I'm glad my stint at the Melbourne Uni School of Business was short one and I could get out quick.

Billy Slater one of the best NRL players in the world has stated that playing AFL is more difficult than NRL in terms of what a player has to do during the game.

Storm train near my AFL club Carlton so both clubs have assisted each other with various skills each other can learn from. AFL learnt better tackling techniques, NRL learnt how to kick longer, deeper and more accurate.

As evidenced by Cooper Cronk being one of the best kicks in the NRL.

NRL is fine to watch but for most of a set of 5 its one player charging straight into another player and being tackled.

Sure when a Billy Slater goes on a long jinking run through a defence it looks great, but seeing a Nathan Hindmarsh hit up count after count is less about out and out ability and alot to do with size and fitness.

The NRL here is a joke with its pitiful salary cap and its ruling bodies inability to think big will ensure its only ever a game in Australia played in NSW and parts of Queensland.

That's why they lose player after to other codes and o/s teams.

My stance on league has nothing to do with Storm. I don't even follow them. :p

If I follow anyones results it's Cantebury's.
