Right from the outset it was explained that tickets would be £5 more on the day. If there was no price differential a greater number would wait to pay on the day with the option of dropping out because of the weather, traffic, TV, etc and saving money.
That makes some sense but not really. The tickets were sold when the time was known. People don't attend things because of last minute circumstances - illness, family, something happening. Sure weather and traffic will play a part for some.

I'm not sure a fiver makes that much of a difference but on the day it might stop some from coming.

I understand dynamic pricing - it makes airlines like Ryanair and easyJet tick but I'm not sure the 4th round of the fa cup is relevant for that.

It's a moot point for me. The fiver psychologically is very mildly irritating but I can afford it. The bigger factor is the hassle of getting to and from the game in the cold.

More than willing to hear the stats from the club/those in the know that prove the opposite. I guess at one point in my life id chase the deal but in this case probably unlikely - we all know there will be seats available.

And aware that this is normal for football... I'm just questioning why. There's loads of seats left. Usually with a surplus you discount - which I'm not suggesting - but why would you increase the price for your stock when it becomes useless tomorrow..

Because Paul Barber wants to have a more wealthy customer base. People for whom £5 or £10 feels like a meaningful sum of money are tolerated rather than wanted.
Given he’s charging the same price for a cup tie as a home friendly with Chelsea at the Amex - 13 years ago ! - (we won !) - he’s not trying very hard at this fiendish plan you imagine he’s cooking up.

Was always the way, before your time if we struggle a bit in the league even 1979-83, the number of attendees fall away significantly. This really isn’t a football hotbed like Glasgow, Liverpool or Newcastle where it’s a religion. Per capita far more folk in the Burnley catchment go to their games.

I wouldn’t reference (after what you said about) CPFC2010, they’re the same as us.
I remember many a game at the Goldstone 7-8k gates including away fans.
How is it overpriced? How is £25 to watch the 10th placed team in the Premier League play the 4th placed Premier League team over priced? Name any other live entertainment in the country at anything approaching this level that is anywhere near £25?

It will cost you only £8 less to get into Tonbridge Angels v Worthing the same day. Compared to a game packed full of international players.

The idea that it is overpriced is ridiculous.
The gate money is split anyway it’s hardly a massive money spinner, a chance to give something back £15 Adults £10 kids

Currently at Cape Town International Airport boarding a flight shortly, and hopefully when we land tomorrow morning we will be in the 5th Round of the FA Cup 🤞

Either that or depending on the mode of the defeat we might be looking for yet another Manager? 🙈

at home
Mate of mine just pinged me as we normally go out for a walk along the seafront saying the pubs at the bottom of west street by the street food places are filling up with “mouthy twats”

on Another point, hopefully the uni will have old fashioned Albion fans who know the “ one out, move” manoeuvre to keep the queues moving.

although if we are three down with 15 to go, could be easy getting out

Well if you believe some on here you'll still be home before those taking the train from Falmer.

Exactly why atmospheres are shit these days, too much emphasis on the prawn sandwich brigade.
Interesting. What exactly is this ‘emphasis’? Could you explain more?

I get the psychology of the price going up on the day, but at the same time i don't.

In normal circumstances I would have bought in advance.

Right at this period of time there's alot going on and I can't commit to things - even right now, not sure I can go (all outside of my control).

However I'm looking at a variable amount of factors if i can go.

The weather (it's cold as shit), the getting back home late at night (it's likely to be finishing at 10, which means earliest home is 12 midnight), the fact i don't have my usual seat (and therefore not sitting next to my friend - not the clubs fault) and then whilst it is only a fiver's difference, im sorting of thinking that paying extra for all of that is probably not worth it - it's very quickly going to turn into a 60 quid evening.

There's obviously benefits and provable reasons for the price increase - but I'm not sure how much really. If people want to go, they will go. Turns out that Chelsea at home at 8pm on a saturday night is not an attractive fixture now.
You wouldn’t have gone if the seat had stayed at the reduced price though. There aren't many people who have leave the purchase until the last minute and the idea is to encourage people not to do so.

Parking STILL available for purchase
But no no no it’s ’impossible to get home from’.

You can literally park across the A27 from the Amex and be in the warm comfort of your car ten minutes after the final whistle.
