To me it is a major source of embarrassment. I truly am embarrassed by the way we conduct ourselves on the continent. And having to continually explain things to my foreign friends is a pain. On a day to day domestic basis they are flumoxed as to why we make life so bloody hard for ourselves, at a political level they are plain bored BUT they find our belief in the football team amusing.

Personally I would suggest your friends should be more flummoxed as to why the rest of Europe wish to continue supporting such a corrupt and criminal organisation as the EU. If you're that embarrassed about our country why do you not move to an EU loving country ?

Yes. Their overriding desire is to integrate. How on earth did the eurozone come about if this was not the case? How do train runs across different countries if there was not integration. It's not perfect but there is a will, in general.

Dont judge europe by the right-wing nutters, loons and crazies you probably come across and befriend. Whatever little pocket of cranks you wish to highlight you cannot get away from the fact that each country you mention all democratically elected a goverment which, in general, integrates. As I say, it's not a perfect integration but there is a general will and it is evident time and time again.
