[Albion] Appalling Quality All Round - Dreadful

I don't see why he should rise above it.

If the fans need to be loved then show some love.

We do love a self fulfilling prophecy.

'gonna call X shite - then complain when X is shite'.

For me he is the face / leader of the Albion. He hasn’t (at least that I’ve seen) had a public go at the players for some pretty insipid performances. I suspect he never will and for man management that’s probably right. I would say that he should do the same with the fans, no one wins on the them and us (I am ignoring social media, god help us if he reads stuff here and sees into the minds of nsc posters - although I think we have the right to Von opinions here as it’s the fans equivalent of the dressing room). Btw I equally dislike the patronising occasions Barber has a dig at the fans (and he is a superb CEO).

We don't always agree but this is bang on.

Potter started well here but it is quite clear why Swansea finished 10th in the Championship last season. Because, when the likes of Ashworth weren't watching they were clearly shithouse. With this team, playing this way, we'll go down and not go back up.

Except....hold the phone.....if I was a Watford fan I'd be saying the same thing. That own goal was comical and they were woeful with the exception of the goal we gifted them.

And after ten minutes with the club who”s idea was it to give him a contract extension and why?

WE ARE MAKING IT THEM AND US, not GPott

TBH if I were him I'd be full on Delia after 'we' booed them off at halftime.
Grabbing the mic from RR and calling us exactly what we are, a bunch of over entitled, ingratiated, *****plats who don't deserve to call ourselves fans or supporters.

If you behave like that then you are a customer.

So either accept being a customer with all that entails.
Or be a supporter.

Just don't be both - when it suits your needs.

Now you've made me get shouted at by Guinness Boy because I'm not allowed to say our support id fudging shite, despite all the evidence to the contrary.
Once again your analysis is bang on. If others take offence they need ask themselves why rather than just accept their banal knee jerk f**K you.

The only positive I can take from that horror show was Alireza had a great 20 minute cameo. He was my mom just for that as he was the only fella who tried to make anything happen ( which he did ) or looked as if he gave a toss. The whole team looked from the start as if they could not give a rats ars and had been in the casino until 5 am this morning. What worries me the most about Potter is he seems happy with any dross we serve and thinks it is acceptable. We have won 2 in the last 16 games and 1 in 12. Where is the progress ? The football for the first 10 games was great but by and large been horsesh.t for about 4 months now

Gross showed amazing desire when his number came up to be substituted. Never seen a player so keen to get off the pitch. For that he was my MoM.

I'm not sure why you've tagged me. The atmosphere at the Amex is poor and has been for a good, long while. Nevertheless, it is better when we play well. No one was complaining after Bournemouth at home. Team played well, fans responded, everyone happy.

Since then something has gone fundamentally wrong. The players looked happy at the start of the season, back to enjoying their football and creating chances. Arsenal away wasn't that long ago and Chelsea at home less than two months ago. There was a real buzz around the place after that too and the great goal scored by Ali J. We could have taken that and used it but we, the fans, haven't, Potter hasn't and the players haven't.

Yesterday Trossard strolled around like he couldn't be bothered. Mooy slowed every single move down a la Stephens. Duffy looked bewildered, utterly bewilderd. And not fit. And The Greyhound? Probably the most inept right back performance of the season. Dunk wears the mask of a permanently angry man. There doesn't seem to be an awful lot of leadership from him. It looks to me like it is not a very happy camp. Same thing as this time last season and we all know what happeend there.

Ironically (only in that I'm replying to his greatest fanboy) the one player who looks full of confidence and fight is Ali J. And we've barely seen him since "that" overhead kick. It beggars belief.

So - in summary - yes we, the fans, are as poor as the players at the moment. We should create a lot more of the right sort of atmophere. We shouldn't boo our own. But people absolutley have the right to come on here and criticise afterwards and the same on Twitter and Facebook. If I paid £50 for a meal in a restaurant that was supposedly top tier and the waiter was shit, the starter was shit, the main course was shit, the wine was shit and the atmophere was shit it would be the first four things I moaned about when reviewing it on social media. Yesterday we were appalling, Watford were apalling, the referee crew were apalling and our tactics were non-existant. So I'm complaining.

EDIT - also if you want to improve the atmosphere then don't kick out the people making it and sell their seats to tourists,

Tony Bloom's. I suspect because at that point he was doing a good job and people were sniffing round as the managerial merry-go-round got going. At the time it seemed fine (and Tony has invested way more in this club than anyone else and knows exactly who he wants in charge of what). In hindsight it's looking a bit stupid. Potter has three months to rescue the season and get the players back to enjoying their football or he should be toast, contract extension or no contract extension. However, for me, the bad apple is Ashworth. We've gone down hill since he joined.

Also Stat our away following is great. Sold out numbers for local games and the fans at West Ham were as loud as ever. And yet we have been a joke away from home since Arsenal. Riddle me that.

I don’t like booing and would never do it, but I have to disagree.

The club is fragmented, there is no togetherness on the pitch, the quality of football has gone downhill at an alarming rate, especially in the last month, and if you want the fans to pull you through you need to get them lifted somehow.

Big challenge by someone. (Don’t possess anyone capable).

Create chances. We just go round in circles getting nowhere.

I have been to clubs all round the country and we are not the only fans who are quiet. In fact fans turn on their team a lot quicker than ours. Bournemouth a couple of weeks ago, with us last playing around the halfway line, there fans had turned, 5 mins later we gifted them a chance and brought the fans back in the game.

The Goldstone was far worse and I have yet to hear a chant of ‘What a load of rubbish’....

What GP has done, and is doing, is absolutely fine in the main. I do find it amazingly frustrating that playing out from the back has become so ingrained in the players that doing anything else has become problematic.

But.......

Locadia, Maupay, Trossard, Jakhanbash come at a combined price of nearly £80 million, and have contributed how many goals between them? I do not dislike any individual amongst those, I want them all to do well. But we have not bought BIG on a striker in 5 years. We all know that the missing ingredient is goals, it has been for ages. Every window we all hold our breath and hope, and repeatedly we exhale as we buy nobody of note. £30 mill, or £40 mill, eye watering figures, and it ain’t my money, but somebody is making a choice not to spend those kind of figures which could have already cemented our PL future. Could be Ashworth, might have been Burke or Winstanley, maybe PB has a say? Mr Bloom has to carry this particular can as he knows the cost of going down.

So what did we do in the last window to address the upfront failings? Extended the contract of a 36 year old. Gonna feel sorry for GP if he gets fired for Tony’s cock up.

Whilst I have no complaint with the attacking players we have bought, apart from we should have bought better, the midfield is different. We lack goals from upfront so a few from the middle would help. So we look to a midfield general, a powerhouse, a player with forward drive...and find Gross, Propper, & Stevens........oh well.

I don’t want Potter out and I certainly didn’t want Hughton out either, but the contract extension felt naive in a number of ways, and surely had to be related to release clauses or similar.

As for Ashworth couldn’t agree more and said the same last week.

Indeed.

We are very flakey as supporters. Remember the Stains losing 0-9 to Leicester a while back? Their supporters sang non stop.

In contrast yesterday, when things were not going our way it was silence, with a bit of tutting, and here and there people shouting 'rubbish'.

Then when the team was changed and we started to attack, there was noise.

I think we have to face facts. I know that the customers reject being asked to do something they don't want to do but, it is inescapable, we need to trial the clackers again.

I know I'm stating the obvious but realisticaly we probably need 4 wins from our remaining 12 games, and we've won 1 of the last 11.

Are we really going to get 4 wins in these last dozen games? Tonight my feeling is that I can't see where the next win is coming from (unless we draw all 12 games)? I know football is a funny old game but to get 12 points from our remaining fixtures currently is going to require a miracle of Lazarus-esque proportions.

4 wins would take us to 39. Plus the inevitable few draws and that will take us well into the 40's

We do not need to find 4 wins ......... though it would be great if we could

P12 W2 D6 L4 would get us to 39 with a decent goal difference. That will be enough. W3, D3 L6 would also do it.

Personally I don't think we'll lose all of our 4 home games against City, Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal, they will attack us and we'll have space to play in.

The atmosphere at st Mary's is absolutely dire the vast majority of the time. You absolutely cannot compare a one off game where they were getting so utterly battered the fans basically went full circle - which happens quite often under those circumstances.

So many fans seem to think we are unique. We are no bloody different to any other set of supporters ffs. The vast majority of the time I'm watching a game not involving us, the supporters act and behave the same as what happens at the amex. See palace at home to us, for example. Their supposed ultras were very quick to shut up when we were dominating heavily, and selhurst is, the media would have you believe, the creme de la creme in terms of atmosphere in this country.

Like it or not this is how fans in this country act during football games. We react largely to what's going on on the pitch. And it definitely wasn't just 'tutting' and the odd shout of 'rubbish' when things weren't going well anyway. There was just a hell of a lot of angst and frustration about us yet again not turning up in such a big game, myself included.

I can't speak for Chicken Run but since he has arrived there has been a complete lack of focus in terms of recruitment. I very much expected the oppposite but instead we have a situation where Winstanley is still in nominal charge but Potter brought his man with him and Ashworth probably carries the ultimate responsibility. Mooy looked a good bit of business but Webster has been average to say the least and he was only brought in to replace Clarke who was signed, found to be not good enough and immediately loaned. Meanwhile Ben White is showing the Championship how it should be done, whilst being our player and we're about to take an Argentinian international, rip him away from his beloved Boca and, quite possibly, start him at Reading, Rotherham and Wycombe next season, Trossard is undoubtedly a very skillful and dangerous attacking player but he's a bit of a luxury and can't finish. And we STILL can't replace Murray and have been surviving all season on a 36 year old, a Frenchman who has never played at this level before and looks burned out, and a kid.

But do you not sense the atmosphere at the club is wrong? We were doing fine under Hughton at the start of last season, then Ashworth comes in and we start playing poorly and it looks like there is dissent in the ranks. Coincidence? Maybe, maybe not.

Except, at the same time this season exactly the same thing is happening. Looks to me like there is more dissent in the ranks. Potter is blaming the fans, the fans are blaming Potter (or some are) and the players look totally confused. Tell me that Duffy looked like he knew what he was doing yesterday? He didn't. Last week the Greyhound came on and, given freedom to make a nuisance of himself, turned the game. This week, asked to play right back he looked like he'd barely been acquainted with a football before. Same thing has happened to Bissouma. One great game agaist Bournemouth but a poor one with the stiffs against Wednesday and suddenly he's sent to Coventry. Ali J, two goals in two games is assigned back to the bench at best. Connolly is no longer trusted. Bernardo who looked our best player at times during his run is binned off for a centre back.

Our whole recruitment and selection policy looks flaky and I'd expect that to be Ashworth's ultimate remit. It said as much in the article that Goldstone1976 linked to this week. For the second time in a year we are in a position that is leading to unhappiness in the stands and on the pitch and the one senior appointment that is consistent across the whole period is Ashworth.

Just nonsense. You live in a simple world whereby if you can reconcile the difficulty that is prospering in the Premier League by laying the blame at the door of one individual then that makes you happy. I believe that for the first time we have the opposite in our recruitment policy. Some long term planning that links the academy, the loan system and the needs of the first team aligned with a style of play. This was always going to be a period of transition and performances and results have been poor over the last 5 weeks. But I would much rather focus on the positives and enjoy my football rather than constantly searching for the negatives. When did some Brighton fans get this sense of entitlement that means that all we have to do is turn up to beat all these ‘lesser’ teams in the Premier League
