Anyone Else Hear This Extremely Encouraging Rumour Today?

The *ahem* rumour that I know of, is that Poyet wants 3 players to join the squad but as yet, no guarantee that we'll get them.

I've not heard anything about players leaving, apart from a possibility of Virgo going to Southampton.

No-one can guarantee a player will leave. A club can try and push a player out the door, but he may not go.

We may want rid of 15 players, but that would need teams with 15 spots to fill at the appropriate budgetary levels. And that won't happen for all of them.

Seriously though, what has happened to Whing?

Everyone seems to have written him off as a dud when the guy was heralded as our best player not long ago.

This big clearout idea makes some sense but considering we made wholesale changes in the Summer as it is we're hardly looking at the guarantee of fixing things by trying to axe players left, right and centre.

Fact is however we've been scrabbling about at the bottom of the table for a season and a half now so something isn't right.

We can't blame it on not having the money or attractive enough facilities to compete anymore. Yes there are bigger teams than us in this league who we were never going to compete with (Charlton, Norwich, Leeds etc.) but beyond our own League One big boys there are numerous clubs we should be looking down at which we simply aren't.

We've shipped out a lot of old boys, we've changed almost all of the backroom staff, we have a high profile (if unproven) management team, we've got in a new chairman, new investment and secured the stadium with no further delays on the horizon. These are all things people have been blaming our poor performances on over the past few years but we are running out of excuses.

Something is f***ed.

Players like Elphick, Whing and even Murray who once looked the mustard aren't doing anything now and no matter how much changes around them nothing is changing the performances.

Why would a wholesale clear out be the answer any more than changing manager, getting rid of Booker and White, having Knight move upstairs and securing the future of the new stadium wasn't?

Yes but Poyet inherited this team. January will important to us supporters to see how he'll 'tweak things'

Poyet obviously doesn't rate Whing and Virgo, there future with the Albion seems fairly bleak.

Yesterday was the litmus for me - I didn't care about the rain or the fact the TRHK Jnr now costs more (over 16) or hving to drive from Kent for each game - I turned up fully expecting us to play well and to win.

As usual, when a BHA fans allows himself a little optimism, the team kick you in the teeth. We've played well in bursts in recent games and based on yesterday's evidence, Orient were there for the taking. So our team decided to turn in the worst performance I've seen this year. God it's depressing. We have no divine right to expect to beat Orient, but some performances have hinted at it, we've splashed a fair bit of cash, we have a stable club and an ambitious Chairman......and then we get drenched in B block in order to watch that.

TRHK Jnr came more out of loyalty to me than because he was itching to see the Albion. It was not the weather or the shit ground that caused the lack of atmosphere, it was a truly supine performance.

We had barely an hours drive home last night, but it felt like a drive to Aberdeen. Very much respect to you for driving all that way - and I'll bet like me you'll keep going, but I'll also bet you're in your 40's, 50's or 60's and started watching the Albion in the Glory days. This type of football we suffered yesterday will lose us a generation (or two).

Let's face it if this is true in the slightest of ways it will only happen next summer because neither Poyet nor Bloom are fans of the January transfer market.

Don't expect they're big fans of League Two either. Which is where they'll end up if they wait til the Summer

It will be very reminiscent of the Clough era when , I seem to remember, after a rather humiliating 8-2 home defeat , he summarily dismissed 14 or so on the Monday/Tuesday afterwards. Poyet knows the leagues and the payers who are both available and whp we wants. He also knows that this current squad are , a few gems apart, not good enough. This is a tough league and we can all say that he will keep us up with the current squad. He may be able to , but spending a bit of money would near guarantee safety.
Sows ear and silk purse come to mind.

I reckon it will be 10 out and 4 or 5 in max. Unusual in this era to have major reshuffles mid-season. Also Tony bloom has gone on record as not being an advocate of January transfers,so I very much doubt we will have a 18 player cull.

Seasons greetings to all

Rumour at Withdean today was that there was a board meeting in the week where Poyet recommended getting rid of FIFTEEN current squad players in the January transfer window - and buying SIX new players.

Sounds like the kind of drastic action required.

For we are deeply mediocre and show no signs of improvement.

sorry, but what SIX players are going to want to come to us? I wouldn't suprised if this is true, but my fear is that we will simply replace the current muppets with worse ones...

Sounds like a load of tosh to me. For a start, how are we going to get rid of anyone? We can send the loanees back where they came from, of course, and I suppose someone might take a promising youngster who hasn't broken into the first team yet on a loan or a free - but is that the sort of player we want to get rid of? I would have thought having youngsters coming through and breaking into the team is good for team spirit, and that's certainly something we seem short of at the moment.

So OK, we don't want / need Smith, Livermore, McLeod, Navarro, Davies, and a few others - but who on earth will take them off us?

I think the likeliest outcome is that GP will manage to persuade TB to finance bringing in two or three players, but I can't see any more than that coming. No idea who they'll be, of course - I just hope GP remembers what recent managers have so clearly failed to do; that when you bring in new players, they're supposed to be BETTER than those you already have!

I think there are players still on our books who are only here because their contracts didn't expire at the end of last season. Maybe some of them will expire in january, maybe some won't be up until the summer. But I think 15 is too high a number for contract expiration and number of players we don't want but other clubs do (I can see other clubs being interested in the likes of Murray, Bennett, Forster and Dickinson, but so should we so they shouldn't be in those 15)

Why does no one rate Livermore? he's a good player, came from the promotion winning/season before promotion was won Hull team with NF, and i do think that given a chance, he can become a class act, same with Davis minus the established background, he gives us a spark, andhe's not the technically best player, but right now he does a good job of ... moving. It has gotten to a point where an exciting run will set me off in extacy!

Well it's a load of shit really.

Firstly, nobody is going to want a bunch of half-arsed knobs who can't play football. Secondly, nobody in their right mind is going to want to come here if they are any good.
