[Albion] Andy Naylor is leaving

Why?

I pay $46.77 for a YEAR'S subscription to the digital version of the Argus, and the price hasn't gone up in 6 years.

Because they are still a print driven production, they don't put all their stuff online

"30-day free trial (ending 09/04/2019)"

They do, of course, mean 04/09...

Ha it's almost as if they are an American company

Hmm. Having explored a bit more, it seems their coverage of the EFL only extends to featured clubs Derby, Forest, Sheff Wed, Leeds and West Brom. So beyond the Premier League, it's not going to be much cop. My positive opinion may be changing rapidly.

I've found the two sunday weeklies Football League and Non-League do a great job on that, I've actually been looking for a Prem version of that and this might be it

Blimey, £60?? Lucky I started back in March for the US version.

I took up a special offer for the NFL and MLB coverage and for the first few weeks it was superb with lots of great ideas and new angles. But after that - ie when all the editors and writers had used up all the great ideas and new angles they'd been sitting on for the launch - it settled down into just another ESPN or Bleacher Report. With the comparatively limited access to players and managers in British football, especially at Premier League level, I wonder how long it will take the same thing to happen here. Andy Naylor's good relationship with Albion will help him avoid that pitfall more than most, but I foresee clashes over timing of embargoed quotes etc. We'll see.
£60 is supposedly half price too! Seems far too high for the average reader, I want the journalists well paid but Netflix is the same cost and their licensing and production fees must be astronomical.

I only had a couple on my twitter feed, because I don't like wading through pages of shite just to see the occasional interesting post. Today all I have is Andy Naylors retweets and ads. 20 of the last 25 on my feed are retweets of his promoting the Athletic. Great for someone who in his last paragraph in his first article says "Free from advert interruptions".

Well they have put in their blurb their aim is t" a world where West Bromwich Albion matter just as much as Manchester United". Shame that care and attention didn't extend to realising the championship has already started and launch is late

Just signed up for £30 for the first year. Read a couple of articles...seem good, lots more depth and interest than the 'must fill article quota' pieces you get on newsquest sites (like the argus) and hella less annoying. The argus site is basically unreadable without having a fit nowadays.

Apparently, once all staff are on board, 150 UK-focused stories will be published each week.

That's 22 stories a day. Basically one for each journo...

Seems a good platform, the stories I've read so far are good. Maguire + 'How the transfer window works' were interesting.

Phil Hay is doing a live Q&A too which seems extremely popular with Leeds fans, would be interested to see if Andy did one

In my defence, I was left unsupervised.

As they're apparently not interested in the little Championship clubs (neither Cardiff or Fulham are mentioned unless Wozza's list isn't final) what happens if we get relegated? Does Andy get the sack?

Aye. Now he's tweeting rather than simply replying to personal messages. Muted.

I think with our crowds and monied owner we've graduated to full-fledged Premiership yo-yo status that they'd keep an interest in

Are you trying to see possible good news if we struggle this season?
