Its a common occurence on all boat racing. If the wind drastically changes direction mid race its to ensure that you cant sail the length of the course all on the same tack.

View attachment 190219Had four days in Barcelona watching Britannia beat the Italians. If you're over there, try to get on the water to watch the racing.

You must have been there the same time as me. I had a 3 day trip to Barcelona and had no idea The Americas Cup was on! I went down to the water and saw the whole village they have set up. I caught a glimpse of the Ineos boat too, it's an impressive thing.
