I don't believe it was for 15 minutes. How many times have you ever seen anything like that go on for that long?

So you are suggesting that just before the video started it was a proper toe to toe, punches thrown all over the place, fight, but then once the video started they resorted to posturing, shouting and running away from each other?

Obviously I wasn't there, so I don't know, but that seems pretty unlikely.

Pretty much sums up your post, don't you think??!!!

Interesting comments, and my curiosity is piqued;
How did it happen that these respectable lads got into this fray, and how did it not get conveyed in a courtroom that they are in some ways victims?

Odd reply. How you interpret "respectable" and "victims" from what I wrote is beyond me

It is all in the eye of the beholder.

To clarify:
-They have my respect.
-Not claimed they are victims although it is clear in my eyes (given the length of sentencing) that they are victims of abuse from the system/politicians/police....

Why do they have your respect?

IMO the sentances should have been longer - Do you really want to live in a society where people are respected for brawling in the streets?

Seems odd to me.

Why haven't they got your respect?

I want to live in a society where people are judged on the character they portray in everyday real life and not by a wank argus (lets pour fuel on the fire and sell more copies) article.

he's right.

How can you justify them when you could interfere with a child and get a far lesser sentence

wasn't commenting on the case itself.

Just a childish and ill thought out remark in Das' direction. Bad word, so Das Reich, apologies.

Regardless of how the Argus portrayed it, I can't see how anyone who gets involved in such events could possibly be "respected" on any level.

In fact, if they are generally respectable in the rest of their lives, it just makes it even more incomprehensible.

I presume that you'd encourage your kids to get involved, would you? ???

Some of them had previous but that's still not really justification to jail someone for looking a bit threatening.

Can't be a justification as previous convictions are not allowed to affect the current prosecution, only on special grounds.

To be fair, it's a crime, and fighting over football is pretty pathetic. I don't really see why people will jump to defend them because they're Brighton fans. Punishment is meant to deter, whilst it's not really deterring the more, how should I phrase it; simpletons amongst the fans, punishment needs to be done.

Its all about perspective. If you're getting 2 years sentences for 'posturing' or 'running aggresively' how do you explain nonces getting off with suspended sentences or community orders.

It's a f***ing joke. Like the palace fans done for the charlton thing. 17 people banged up for between 2-4 years for 1 broken nose. Disproportionate

is that really what football violence has come to these days? I think that's the worst fight i've ever seen. I've seen better ones on the pitch. And at school.

Das, you're 'itk', are these top boys? Why did they keep running away from each other? I thought they wanted to fight?

I am genuinely shocked by the poor quality of the fighting. From the video i saw about three punches thrown, none of which connected, and someone throwing a bit of wood. Do they actually want to fight, or not?

Could it be that once the police aren't there to protect them that they actually aren't quite as brave as they make out?

But yes, i agree the sentences are ridiculous. Anyone going to prison for that embarrassing bit of handbags has been seriously hard done by. Releasing the video should have been enough of a punishment, if i considered myself a hooligan and saw myself doing what they were doing in that video then i would be embarrassed. What happened to actual, proper, fighting between hooligans? This country has gone to the dogs.

You know when they bring in families of gang violence (proper violence where people actually get hurt and die) to talk to young gang members to try to get them to turn their lives around? Well they should do that with this, show these 17 year olds who think they are hooligans this video, and let them see what they actually look like. It might just be enough to embarrass them out of it.
i'm not itk

I don't have children so difficult to say but I would like to think that I would raise my children to respect the laws and traditions of this country whilst having an understanding that boys would be boys.. Under no circumstances would they feel it is OK to harm innocent people whilst I would like for them to have the courage to stand up for what they believe in and help people who are in need of help.

Finally (and this go hand in hand with the last point), I would ground them if they logged onto an internet chat site to complain about a spotty teenager who verbally abused another person as opposed to standing up for themself when the situtation arises (no punts intendend).

But as I said, haven't really given parenthood much thought...

So please explain how this incident fits into your beliefs.

I think you've clearly shown that there's no hope for people who consider football hooliganism to be acceptable. I don't care how you try to justify it, it's just plain STUPID.

it's a way of life for some , difficult to comprehend for others .
