Maybe some of people do not think he should still be in a job after last season and whilst they will support the club, they will not back the manager?

Surely because we all support the club and want it to be successful. Starting the season with constant criticism of the manager is definitely not helpful for that especially if it is during games.

We now have Mark McGhee for a while longer so all fans should get behind him. Whatever anybody may think, Mark McGhee is doing his best for the club and wants to take us forward. If we have a bad start then fair enough (although I will back him until Christmas barring a complete disaster).

In my opinion, attacking your manager before the season starts is ridiculous. We have an exciting young side and I don't think any fan knows how good these young players could be. We might suddenly find two or three more players pushing through from the youth ranks to the first team.

This young team and the manager need our backing now more than ever and I will be giving it to them and would be even if I had wanted McGhee out last season!

I support the Albion, but as far as McGhee goes I do not back him. Some of the gutless display's last season made sure of that. Whilst I will carry on watching them, he will not get my backing. Sure I will not do things at the game to hamper the team, but at the same time I will not back McGhee.

Two off top of head.

For Wednesday last year:
Burton Played 15 (2) Goals 3
Tudgay Played 11 (10) Goals 2

Stats off Sheffield Wednesday website!

They mainly stayed up due to getting Carson on loan to shore up the defence. I doubt a player like him would come to Brighton.

Caused Brighton problems galore along with Best at Withdean.

Oh come ON Finchley!

We all want the club to do well but it is plain as the nose on my face McGhee cannot attract any decent players to this club, no matter what division they currently play in.

And as for having a team full of decent kids I can tell you now that half of them won't be up to it, and of the half that are the best 2 or 3 will move on to bigger clubs a la Virgo and Harding.

The best we can hope for this season is play-offs. I'd bite off anyone's hand who offered me a 6th place finish now.

I am not saying that they will all make it. I am saying that this is the youngest squad we have ever had (I think). The potential is incredible. None of them may make it but it is exciting knowing that some or even all (very unlikely) could make it. If Joel Lynch is anything to go by, we have a great group of young players coming through. To me this means that the team needs our support more than ever and backing the team to me means backing the manager.

I honestly cannot understand now that the announcement has been made about McGhee's future and we have a new season why people will not back the manager at least for 10 games. It just seems pointless. Surely, if you want McGhee to go you are supporting our opponents because it will need us to have a bad start for him to be sacked. I am sure Uncle Buck and others will claim that is not true but it just seems illogical to me.

Finally, I would claim that Withdean and the ongoing Falmer situation stop players coming to the club, not McGhee.

Maybe because a few weeks after he wasnt sacked he started blabbing to the press again.
This didnt really indear him to people who were considering giving him another chance and a clean slate.

You say Deon Burton, Marcus Tudgay and u have a point, to a degree. Yes we could maybe have matched the fee paid for these guys, but as in the case of Sidwell, when matched Reading's offer for him we cant match what anyone else can offer in wages.

Sheff Weds get 20,000 at home every other week, we get 7,000, 8k max. We just cant compete. Thats fact.

Thats another reason why we attracted players under Adams. We were the big fish in the small pond offering good wages for Div 3 players. I know we offer more now but sadly its not in the same league as everyone else we were up against last season.

Take Coventry. They say they are skint, BUT they still pull in 20,000 or close to that every week. Their version of skint is only being able to offer players 5-8k a week. Our version of skint is selling our best players to pay for the guys in the ticket office to sell us tickets.

Last year we just could not compete, McGhee work a miracle to keep us the year b4 and im not sure even Wenger could have kept us up last year. Alright hes not perfect, and tried some strange tactical moves, but that i would imagine was desperation more than anything.

It could be worse we could still have Jimmy Case running the show from the dugout pissed with Bellotti and Archer sitting in the directors box wondering how to spend the cash from the Goldstone sale...

Mainly because the gutless performances of last season are still fresh in peoples minds?

At the end of the day we're stuck with McGhee as we can't afford to sack him for a start. He won't walk and why should he ?

I have my reservations about the bloke I admit but I can't see the point of constantly going on about a situation where NONE of us have any influence.

Tell you what, if we're struggling in October the McGhee outers can say 'I told you so'. On the other hand if we're ding okay the Pro McGhee faction will be within their rights to tell the outers to 'Shut tthe Flock up'.

Two off top of head.

Those are great examples to use to SUPPORT McGhee.

You surely must be aware of how long McGhee has been chasing Tudgay to sign, the best part of two years at least? When it came to him leaving Derby, it was clear we could not match the package being offered by Sheff Wed.

This perfectly sums up the frustrations that McGhee has and just how impossible his job was to keep us in Championship.

When Sheff Wed missed out on getting Nathan Tyson, they were simply able to turn their attentions to our long-time transfer target and take him away from us.

Sheff Wed were our direct rivals for the drop, it was either them or us - hence, you can clearly see the lack of a level playing field we have when competing at Championship level.

Money talks, it always does, and the likes of Sheff Wed with their 30,000 crowds simply have much more it than we do.

why does London Irish get slated when he clearly talks sense?
Money does indeed talk, we have none everyone else last year bar Crewe and Millwall did. Look who went down!

Anyway, thats over with, lets be THE BIG FISH in the shit division again. We should take thousands where we go and get the feel good factor back into the club, a new season, a fresh start. Alright if u dont like McGhee thats your call, but lets just start the season with an open mind towards him. His brief i would imagine this season is to get us in the play offs, lets see if he can do it...!!

qualities which McGhee just isn't capable of installing in his team.

Frankly, that's nonsense - the only reason you've been able to watch two years of Championship-level football is because of the incredible team spirit and organisation injected into a squad of players that didn't really belong at that level.

It is great to see someone talking sense for a change. It can only be counter productive to attack McGhee and turn on him again before the season starts. Giving him at least 10 games is in the interests of the team.

In fairness he only gets slated by people he makes look silly.

Utter nonsense.
The manager has nothing to do with the price a player is sold for, everyone, including Spurs, knew we got mugged over Bobby.

Doubt Coppell would have got 1.5 million for Virgs, he didn't rate him. Didn't he try and offload him to Exeter and ADMIT he got it wrong a year later in the safety of a money laden job at the Mad Jet Ski? Mcghee played him and therefore had quite a lot to do with what he went for?

It ultimately comes back to people having their point of view. Some of us do not see McGhee as the future of this club and struggle to back him. After last season he should have gone, but he has not, hence as I said, I will back the team but not the manager.
