Scored for them at Millwall today. The home side did what plucky couldn't do to us, sadly. Very late equalizer.

Sadly for Aaron it seems his time with the Mackem’s so far hasn’t been a success. He got a rare 90 minutes (plus extra time, playing his first full game in a long while) as they exited the cup at home to Stoke. Pretty much universal “get rid” on their forum.

Also, love the Connelly spelling - reassuring it’s not just us at NSC with our Houghton’s, Andringa’s and Encisco’s.

Tough gig going into a team that we flying and pushing for promotion. Surprised me at the time and not really surprised it hasn’t worked out.

All things considered, it seemed to be a stopgap solution for Sunderland and about making up their squad numbers.

If I was advising him, I’d suggest lower your wage demands and expectations, find yourself a nice L1 or 2 club with the view of staying there a long time, start banging in the goals and become a fan’s favourite.

I think the potential Problem is the huge drop off in wages and it comes back to ‘motivation’

This is up to him. There's most likely still a decent career in him, just not at the level he was hoping for...or maybe even expecting. He'd still get a decent wage at a L1 or L2 club, with a lot of perks which come with being a pro-footballer. There's a lot of half-decent post-football careers at that level as well. If he really has a passion for football he will be fine. If not, find something else.

And he's just 24 so could carve out a career for another decade more.

Vardy was 25 when he went from Fleetwood Town to Leicester.

Agree, he’s need an Adam Le Fondre type gig

Off to Millwall apparently.

I wonder at what point people start to consider that maybe he just isn't good enough? He can't have many more chances left at making a decent career. Although at least this time it seems like he has messed up the opportunity as such, just hasn't really been able to break in.

I wish him well in his next endeavour. Hopefully this is the one that finally works for him.

I think the fact that he clearly has talent, or at least had it, goes a LONG way to earning chances. Teams are always desperate for goalscorers so if they can get him in on a free and hope that they can be the club that sets his career on the right path again, it's probably worth the risk

You’re absolutely right.

The stark reality of Aaron’s career so far though was a couple of good seasons in PL2 and then a sparkling full PL debut against Spurs 5 years and 3 months ago… when he was 19.

Then… very little, except 8 goals at Hull. He turns 25 in a couple of weeks. I really feel it’s now or never for him. And I don’t mean to start working his way back to the top, I mean to have a career in the professional game at any level.

Sadly if this one and maybe the next one a league or two down both fail, I think there’s a very real chance he might retire young or drop into non-league.

The fact he is a striker definitely helps. If he was a left back he’d probably be on the scrap heap already.

Waste of time. As I previously said, if I was his advisor I’d find him a nice L1 or L2 club with a view for the long term. Let him rediscover his ability has carve out a decent career in the lower league as a fan’s favourite.

Risk there is that he would take a pay cut with no guarantee of making it back up the leagues.

Can't blame him or his agent for getting him the best deal.
